I feel that this school was good when we first started going here, 3 years ago. Now, the PTA is having a hard time getting any parent involvement, the front staff is rude, except for Sherry. You have to fight for everything there for special requests. It is a challenge to have your child looked at as something other than a test score! Teachers are not getting support they need and the school has no true rules with handling bullies.
I would not recommend this school. We decided to move to this school district a year ago, because the school got a 9/10. Well it has fallen to 7, and should be farther in my opinion. My son has failed the 3rd grade, after a modest amount of help from the school. Th teacher did what she could, but obviously, not enough. When problems were obsereved, it seemed like the only answer was more homework, which he had problems doing what he had. I have asked for ann IEP several times, but have been denied. What other litmus test do you need than the kid flunks the grade?? Asked for a zone variance, but it is still CCSD. Pretty soon we will need to change the spelling of the state to NEVADUH!!!
My son started PreK at Darnell and he is behind in everything and the teachers and the people that work there have tons of patience and they treat me and my son so great I am so happy I enrolled him :)
My Twin girls started going to this school in October 09 and they love this school. They are both in Special Ed they have a great program and there teachers really care about them. They are in thrid grade and enjoy all of there class mates.
This school so far is a joke. My child went to Scherkenbach Elementary last year, and nothing compares to that school so far! There is no communication, no involvement with the PTA, all they want is for you to sell stuff. I used to get letters every week from either they were going to spray pesticide, or something as minor as a teachers schedule was moved around. I also feel 'out of touch' with this school as well. I feel the principal and staff are overwhelmed or dont know what they are doing. I fell as if my child does not exist. I think i will ask for a zone variance next year because Scherkenbach is the best, look at thier rating!!
this school is not very organized, and basically I feel 'out of touch' , there is hardly any communication whatsoever. I think they need to try harder on things like communication, and also try updating their school website!
I am in my second year as a Darnell Parent and I love it. I have twins who were in K last year. Their teacher Mrs. Buell was awesome. I don' know of many other kindergarten teachers giving spelling test! She really prepared them for first grade and its homework demands. We are now in Mrs. Martinez's class and she seems to be a perfect fit. The first month has been a review of last year while she figures out each child's strengths and weaknesses. She has proven to be a fair but tough grader. Vice Principal Rice is nice and approachable. The front office is very helpful and the PTA is energetic. I have nothing but praise for the school.
My son is in Kindergarten this year, with Mrs Buell. We could not be happier. The school is immacualte, feels safe and his teacher is the best he could have gotten. We're thrilled w/ every aspect of this school so far. Parents seem very involved and eager to help the kindergarten teachers any way they can. I feel like this will be a very good year.
Great School, great at recognizing kids in excellence.
I have been at Darnel for 4 years now and it has been a good school, I do have bright children so the over crowding hasnt been horrible as far as education of them goes but I do know that after the fall festival, I realized Wow it is just too crowded and my particpation does matter so that my children do not get eaten up in the mess. They have gotten a few more teachers in sports and music and my children like each of their teachers. If Darnell would get to the level of students it was a few years ago it would shine just like it is intended to do like thier motto, 'Darnell Superstars'
