Moving here from the Eastcoast,I find that Clark County School District is way behind.

Coming from CA I am thrilled to death with Sierra Vista. My son told me he was so far behind when he started as a 9th grader. This is his 2nd year and I am ecstatic with what he's learned and how prepared he is becoming for college. I also love all the choices he has for electives. He would never have had the chance to experience electives like CAD. He has friends that still call him from CA and tell him stories about what goes on in their school. He says they would never get away with that here. Go Sierra Vista.

My son is in his second year at Sierra Vista and now I know why NV has the lowest number of graduating seniors. I agree with the comment that the staff can't admit when they are wrong. The children are definitely in charge at that school.

Im sad to say that I am not very happy with Sierra Vista High Schools Overall format! The enrollment process was unorganized,My children and I felt like we were being herded through like a bunch of cattle! The next room did not know what the prior room was doing, and they really didnt make my disable daughter feel welcomed or assisted when needed at all! She has no locker, nor did they feel that t was a priority to give her one.She is on crutches and assisting devices permanently for mobility reasons and has to carry her materials everywhere she goes! Not to mention the lines are so long at lunch neither one of my children make it to the top in time to eat,how unfair every chils should have time to eat lunch!but there are not enough lines and help!I have much more to say,not enough space!

This is a good school, it's clean, in a good area, and is farely new/updated. The staff isn't always as bright as the students and don't know how to admit when there wrong.

On the whole I could half fill a thimble with anything negative about this school and it's teaching staff. They take a real interest in the students and I feel Sierra Vista has great principal leadership. While education is our primary goal for our children; at the same time you don't want to worry about issues of safety or violence at school. As parents, do not have to worry about those concerns because Sierra Vista is on top of the situation at all times. It is a school anyone would be pround to have a student in. We are. -Pete & Norine Sorensen

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Nevada used the High School Proficiency Examination (HSPE) to assess high school students in reading, writing, math and science. The HSPE is a high school graduation requirement. The HSPE is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Nevada. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.
