Teacher quality
Principal leadership
Parent involvement
I have been able to see both sides. My step-daughter attends a public school close to my other two children who attend WOLCA. While no school is perfect, WOLCA is the far better choice. My 7 year old is teaching 10 year old daughter how to spell "White", and my step-daughter is in GATE program at the local public school! When I went through my divorce, the Principle made time in her busy schedule to have lunch with my son, to pray with him and ask him how he was doing. As early as Kinder, my son was taking Computer and Spanish class! WOW! Now that my son is in the 5th grade, he is already working on geometry where as his step-sister (same grade) is still doing basic fractions! Public schools "no child left behind" is great for some but can hinder others. WOLCA has assisted every child to rise above, from what I have seen.
All schools have issues that we as parents would like to change, but for the past 6 years I have seen more positive then negative at WLCA. As with any school, you have devoted staff and those that are the 9 to 5 only type. WLCA has more of the devoted than not. I only have experience with the elementary K-5. You have teachers that you absolutely love and those that you don't care for, but if you ask another parent they are opposite of you. As with any school, personalities are different. I haven't had a school year that my student did not grow in knowledge and God. There are some years that are more fun than others for hiim, as the case with all schools. I feel blessed to have found a school that I feel good about. My son hears and speaks about the Lord without fear. Right and wrong are not blurred at WLCA. The school does need a new home due to growth. It's difficult to have a church and school together. There is a us and them battle when the two are combined at any Christian school. Even with needing a new home for K-12, it's truly a school that becomes a family to you. Your childern are loved and grow up with an extended group of people that only want the best for them.
This is a review of the elementary program. Having worked closely with this schools administration and also with having a relative as a public school teacher I feel I have a unique perspective to compare the public vs private school environment. I have several children at WLCA and over the past 6 years I commend their elementary program. 1. It's a Christian curriculum and God is at the forefront of their beliefs. They begin everyday in prayer, have weekly chapel, and teach biblical principals. 2. The elementary staff is well trained, accredited, and chosen not only for their teaching skills, but also their faith. 3. The curriculum is challenging and on par leaning to exceeding the CCSD curriculum. Examples of my children's experiences: preschoolers learn to read, 1st learned cursive writing, monetary math; 2nd grade multiplication/division; 3rd grade book reporting, creative writing; 5th grade historical geography, and pre algebra. 4. Multiple field trips a year. The school does have opportunities to improve its play area, and further expand its sports, and consolidate fees, but I am very pleased with the education they have received so far.
We've had our son here for 2 years - going on his 3rd year. It is a Christian school running the Abeka curriculum which is what we wanted. Some of the other reviews I've read were either posted 3 years ago or were posted by the same person or BOTH! In either case, yes, not a perfect school - dangerous blacktop playground WITH NO FENCE! This needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY. Teachers are ok, I gave them 3 out of 5 stars. Its a Christian based school so we expect Bible teaching and Chapel along with Math, English, Science, etc so our child can be well rounded. Our boy is WAY ahead of our friends' kids who are in public schools I believe, BECAUSE of the the well-rounded approach and the fact that he doesn't need to go to school in a bullet proof vest or deal with the indoctrination of political correctness being handed out in public school classrooms. The price is fair - all private schools hit you for money for EVERYthing - c.f. First Lutheran, Bishop Gorman, etc. - overall a good school and we recommend it to anyone and everyone seeking to give their child a well-rounded education
Before considering this school perform your due diligence and vet the staff and policies. A majority of the staff is not certified to teach and several lack degrees by an accredited institution. The administration is more concerned with gouging the parents and students for cash than providing a well rounded and challenging curriculum. The faculty turnover rate is dramatic and announcement of new teachers and their qualifications are not provided to parents. I challenge anyone to contact the teachers and administration via the e-mail addresses provided. Your e-mails will NOT be answered. This school claims they teach excellence yet the curriculum is "Watered down" as a teacher actually admitted. The LOL detention policy is in place not to discipline wayward students but rather to pad the coffers of the school. I urge you to seriously review this school, speak with the administrators and review the credentials of the staff before considering this as an appropriate learning institution for your children.
They have a really good science teacher but beyond him the teachers are just ok. But its a caring school and a good christian enviroment. and they have nice weekly chapel's. Def better than public schools.
Wlca is the best school in the world. My children have been attending this school for eight years. Some of the comments below do not truly reflect the character of the school, nor the vision of the founder. The school is not perfect; you will never find a perfect school. However, it's better than most. Your children will be surrounded by good influences. Principal Marchello is a wonderful, godly woman who leads our school with excellence. The school showcases a wide variety of teachers who are well equipped to teach your child the academics he or she needs in order to be successful. If you're looking for a great school, WLCA is the place for your child.
My son attends Word of Life Christian Academy. He was in public school here in Las Vegas and also another private school before we transferred him to WOLCA. This is his second year and he is in middle school. We have been very pleased with the quality of education and the smaller class sizes. A great majority of the teachers are highly qualified and they really care about the students education and well being as well as their Christian instruction. The principal is a dedicated, devoted and caring administrator. I recommend this school.
I have watched good teachers come and go from this school over the last several years. Why is this? Check their records! Most of the staff do not even have a degree and how can they post that they teach Excellence when they are not degreed? Why is there a high turn around in staff, why did they leave? You are constanly being asked to send more money for various things. Not a place for my child!!!!
This is my third attempt to post a review of the WLCA Preschool. As my past two postings have been deleted, I will attempt once more. My point is not to make anyone look or feel badly, I just want to be heard. In my six months of my daughter's attendance, my experience was not welcoming. I felt that the teachers were bothered by me. As I am a teacher and am able to identify and address classroom concerns, I was patronized by the teachers and the preschool director. WLCA may have a great K-12. People who I know and love send their kids there and are happy. My experience was only with the preschool. The teachers are unskilled, not good classroom managers and have a political agenda. If this posting is deleted, I am going to pay a visit to the preschool director personally.
This is my third attempt to post my review, the first two posts having been removed. My experience with WLCA resulted in my daughter regressing both academically and socially. I would not recommend this preschool to anyone who is interested in their child's educational, social or spiritual development. Teachers and staff are dishonest. K-12 is not included here, my experience is limited to the preschool.
Please realize you can't please everyone. Having said that. The school is excellent. They use the Abeka curriculum. This school has dramatically changed in the last 5 years from the time it first opened. My son is now a Kindergartner and is in his 3rd year attending. The principle leadership is the best I have ever seen. As private schools go this is one of the least expensive compared to others.
Reading the reviews doesn't really help decide if you should send your kid there because the reviews well are mainly written by the STAFF that works at wlca. They want the school to sound like the best school ever its NOT i went there you make friends with the whole school since its so SUPER small but what you learn is WAY behind what public school is learning. What they mainly teach is Bible thats ALL they care about and the church not even the school i mean their website is ONLY about the church only like 5 words for the school. Plus the school just WANTS your money i use to get invoices to give my parents so they could pay,the school is very greedy with money. I WOULDN'T send your kid here. Especially NOT for high school. the high school here is like being home schooled. its NOT great
reading the reviews doesnt help because most of the reviews are written by the staff to make the school sound amazing, but its not. The school just wants your money i went there last year and trust me they're super greedy with money. The high school there isnt even great. They dont have any electives for this school or sport teams its not a real high school you basically pay 500 dollars for your kids to be home schooled. All you learn is about the Bible its good and all but they have a Bible club at public school. I wouldn't send your kid here just dont send them to a real school.
You should only consider this school for pre-school or the first couple of years of elementary school. After that the school falls behind academically. The students that have transferred to public schools during Junior High or High School have discovered that they are behind academically. The only thing that is taught well is bible but there are bible clubs or religious education programs for that. I was very disappointed to find out that after paying tuition to that school for 8 school my child was not even on the same level as the public school children.
A prayer filled schhool, with excellnt teachers, and excellent principal. We are so blessed and happy.
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent school!! The High School Program has grown so much in the past years. My son has been in WLCA since the fith grade and now is in high school. The school will now be offering more electives for the students. Great curriculmn, small classes, dedicated, loving,Christian, professional staff. I higly recommend this school.
The preschool is GREAT! The teacher's are fun, loving, Christian, and very dedicated. The students are always happy and they learn the ABEKA curriculumn and is a very advanced curriculmn. The 3 year olds are in well advanced some are even in a Kindergarten level and the four year olds are reading, doing simple addition!! If you have a 3 or 4 year old child go to WLCA Preschool. your child will be loved, and will learn a lot!!
This School Is a great place for your child if they love to be challenged. I admit that some things at the school need to be fixed, but at the same time,I understand the school is very young and it will take some time to make things perfect. I attended this school for fifth grade, sixth grade, eighth grade, and tenth grade so I know what I'm talking about! There have been good times and hard times, there have been times when I hated attending and times when I absolutely loved going. The curriculum is pretty tough, but the teachers who work there can help your child succeed. The Bible is always taught and practiced on the daily-that was what I enjoyed the most in my years attending- so this is the school for you if you want your child to be taught Godly principles. Great school I recommend it!
My friend goes to the high school and he alway talks about how much fun he has. I would also like to attend.
