There are good teachers and bad teachers. This school unfortunately in my opinion have more bad than good teachers. It just makes me upset that I would have to put a request in to the school in hopes to get a mediocre teacher for the next school year. Shouldn't we as parents be comforted with the fact that no matter what teacher they are placed with they will get the best education?? This was my child's first year with Lomie and it definitely will be the last year! He will be attending a charter school off base. Parents, don't do your children an injustice by keeping them in this school for CONVENIENCE. Our children deserve better!
We moved here in March and unfourtantly Lomie G Heard did not make us feel welcomed. The office staff is extremely rude. My daughter's teacher does not seem interested in teaching. It seems as if we as parents are going to have to do the teaching. It leads me to ask where are my tax dollars going? We get a homework packet on Mondays with a tremendous amount of homework in it for a Kindergartener. No specific directions on how to do the homework but when we did the homework with our daughter the teacher marked through everything with red ink. Are you serious RED INK in Kindergarten? Not to mention the kids are only in school for 2 1/2 hours why in the world would you have recess? They are barely in school. All that time should be used for learning and teaching. I'm hoping my husband is not stationed here to long. The quality of education that has been displayed to me so far is not good. WE as a family value education and I don't see this same value happening in this school.
Horrible. Office is rude and condescending, principle is to high and mighty to be bothered, VP thinks she is always right and won't listen to anyone. There are a FEW good people but they are rare, this school only wants to deal with the advanced kids. Anyone who needs extra help is trouble. Jerked my child out.
My daughter has been attending Lomie Heard now for 2 years and we will be relocating next year. Figured it was NEEDED to put a review! The school and staff are amazing! My daughter LOVES all her teachers and the principle and staff knows her by name (a common occurance for a LOT of students). We had some pitfalls in Kinder, but it was just a teacher who is no longer there. I would like to point out Mrs. Tobey, a 1st grade teacher, as an amazing person and teacher. My daughter thoroughly enjoys seeing her everyday. Class sizes are average, she has 19 kids in her class. Such a positive experience for our family, I hope we have the same outcome at our next school.
Office staff is rude. Current teacher does not care about students. Dismissed what 5 doctors have diagnosed (due to military moves- new drs do their own diagnosis) and formed their own opinion. This is a straight A student for the two years at this school with medical issues that suddenly was getting F's. The teacher did not see a problem. Tried meeting with the principal, I was told I had to meet with the teacher's direct line supervisor, the VP. Not of much help, both dismissed the doctor diagnosis and formed their own. Current teacher does not know my child, this was apparent when given a form by the doctor to fill out and they did not fill out my child's strengths or weakness. This may have been a good school at one time, it no longer is. It is on the "Watch" list for No Child Left behind. The previous school in town was much better, teachers cared, office staff and principal there were very friendly. Parents are lead to believe there are opportunities to help and that is not the case. The last base school had high parental involvement and many opportunities to help out. I expected much more from a school on a military base.
My daughter had attended another school and we were very unhappy with the school. The teacher did not know anything about my child, my daughter was behind in reading and it didn't seem like nothing was being done to help her. The front desk staff wasn't much help and the principle was rude. We came to this school after moving onto base and was immediately welcomed. The front desk staff was very helpful and nice. Her teacher was excellent and right away put her into a special reading program where she excelled. The principle greets and welcomes parents and students on most mornings. Any parent that I've known that has had an issue the principle responded quickly and dealt with it in a very professional manner. I'm really happy my child goes to this school.
Lomie Heard is such a great school! My son attends school at LH and loves it. The staff members are very approachable and same with 'most' of the office personnel. There is nothing better than your child coming home everyday loving school... The homework packets are very helpful and coincide with the daily assignments. I really appreciate the chance to work with my son at home, it reinforces what is taught during the day. If your child will be attending LH, you are in for a real treat!
The teacher my child had was wonderful, but unfortunately the administration doesn't follow procedure and rules implemented not only by the school district, but nation-wide policy. Due to the unwillingness of the administration, I pulled my child from this school.
Lomie Heard is a wonderful school. The teachers and staff care so much for the children. My children have gone here for 4 years and have loved every teacher. They make every effort to keep parents involved and to stay involved. If you are moving to Nellis have no worries about your child going to school at Heard!
Lommie Heard is great! My daughter is in kindergarden and her teacher is amazing! She learned to read so quickly and the homework she brings home helps even more. The school sends home letters all the time about current and future events. Some of the office staff seem 'rude' and/or not concerned if they have customers or not. Other than that, I love it.
My daughter attended Lomie Heard for her kindergarten year. Her instructor was passionate about her job and really put forth 110% in the classroom, thereby instilling the same motivation in my daughter. For the short period of time we were there, my family loved it.
I believe Lomie Heard is an excellent school with teachers that care. This year was my son's first year at Heard and he loves it. The teacher keeps us informed by inviting us into the classroom and through email. He suggest programs that will help improve his skills such as the Gifted and Talented Program and Young Writers Institute. There is a big emphasis on family and encouraging the children to excel. Lomie Heard is one of the best schools in a very challenged school county. Children that leave Heard are prepared to move on to middle schools, magnet schools and private schools. The school is centered around the children and their needs, helps special needs children and supports military and civilian families. My second child will go to Heard as an alternative to paying private school prices. It is the same education for free. No sports, used youth center.
