Hello,
I'm moving to Las Vegas in the Summer. My son has Aspergers, ADHD and other special needs. I'm trying to figure out how the special ed process works in the Clark County district and also what the best school to accommodate his needs would be.

Any advice would be great!

Hi,
I do not know the ins-and-outs of Aspergers and/or Autism but if it helps to know, my friend's child has Autism and has been in the program @ Twitchell Elementary school in Henderson (suburb of LV) since this summer and he has made great strides (he is 3). She got him in the program with help from early intervention and Easter Seals - Maybe they would be a good resource for you? Best of luck to you!

Hi, I live in Las Vegas and my son also has Aspergers/ADHD...
I definitely have a great school to recommend. It's a public school called Odyssey Charter School. They have a great social program for aspergers and my son has made lots of friends there. At Odyssey your child does most of his school work from home and meets with his teacher once a week. Once they get into 8th grade they go to school once a week for 4 hours. I have loved this program for my son who is now in 8th grade. They have many programs for special needs for your child to attend each week. In the public school we were originally in my son was bullied and picked on all year in 5th grade. He's been in Odyssey for 2 1/2 years now.

Hi I just went to an orientation and found out the Cumorah Academy tuition is 1700.00 and no scholarship available. I can't afford this and don't know how anyone could at this point

How old is your child and has he been mainstreamed in public school at all? I have an ASD son who is in 7th grade at well respected Middle school in Henderson, NV. We moved here in October and it's been a bumpy year. What kind of school situation do you think is best for your son? My other son is ADHD-inattentive type and has an IEP. We've had a big bumpy year for him as well at another well respected elementary school in Henderson. *moving in the middle of the school year is not recommended* ;-)

There are many options depending on your child's needs and your budget:

1. Public school
2. Public school online
3. Public Charter Schools
4. Public Montessori Charter School
5. Private Schools-specific focus

I was recently informed of a school called: Lexis Prep Las Vegas:

Hope this helps you!

After having my ADHD/Asperger son in a public school for two years, due to the district's budget cuts, we had no other option than to look for a private school. The school name is New Horizons Academy, I have to say that my son is learning and mastering things that were pending. The school environment is great. Small class ratio, personal attention if needed, social skills oriented teacher. My son learns in a relax and friendly environment.
