I am having the worst time this yr, and with a teacher. I understand the schools are pushing kids harder! But, for my kid to have all bad grades and in some ,like history? Its as if they are pushing and not making sure the kids understand? Anyone else having the same problem?

I'm hearing that exact complaint from a lot of public school parents. It will be interesting to see how the common core is adjusted in the future since the standards (while admirably ambitious) are simply beyond a large percentage of the kids who are being mandated to reach them.

I'll just give you the really quick version of my story, which is that I have four kids who learn at very different rates. After years of searching I finally found teachers who knew how to teach kids at a pace that was right for them without stigmatizing the slower kids or socially ostracizing the faster ones. When I had the chance I opened a school and hired them.
