My son is in the aviation magnet program and the band. He loves the school, most the teachers are excellent. The administration keeps a firm hand on the school but has a good learning environment. He has had no problems with non magnet kids and looks forward to graduating from Rancho. I do wish more parents would get involved, but the ones who do are dedicated.
My son started last yr and he loves it he is in the Magnet program for Med. I was also worried about the area but am very satisfied thus far ! Now days things happen at all schools regardless of area so with that said all parents hope we will make the right choice for our kids and so far I am happy with our decision.
My son and I am very concerned. My is going to start in Rancho magnet high school, and we are wondering about the bad neigborhood. Also my son overheard that there is a room where teachers confiscate weapons, knives.etc. I understant that there are students in a regular High school, is that true? If is so, What is the chance that my son gets involved with the students that are not in the magnet program? Can anybody answer this question? Thank you
Being an employee of CCSD and a mother of a student, it's very important for me to be very involved in my child's education. Being that my child has been an honor student since grade school, it is very important that she get the best education she can have and RANCHO has one of the BEST magent programs in CCSD. Since the first day of her freshman year I would ask my daughter how her day went and she would always reply with a positive attitude "I love it mom, I love my teachers!" With that said I knew my dauther was in the best hands of educators. She will continue the medical program at RANCHO till she graduates in 2012. Like they say NEVER judge a book by it cover because you never know what's waiting inside!!!
This school is awful, in a bad neighborhood, with little school spirit, and the teachers don't give a rat's blankety blank for the students' education. I switched my child out soon after this school year started.
the school is great i am in the aviation magnet program and it has a bad rep cause its in a bad neighborhood but the kids are great and the teachers cant wait for school to start
The school staff are great as well as the teachers...principals and administration...
The person that said they found the scool to be 'an effort to improve the overall test performance of a school at risk of losing federal funding' got it exactly right. This school may have an 'OK' magnet program, but it's fervor is not felt by the rest of the student body not in the program. School spirit is low, and so are teaching standards for the most part. I would never send my child to this school, knowing first hand as a student myself, how disappointing this school can be.
I was a little afraid of going to Rancho because of the bad neighborhood it's in, but it is actually a wonderful school. The medical program that I am in, is great! I will be there all four years :D
I find it quite pathetic that because this school is located near North Las Vegas they believe it is full of criminals and low lives. It is quite ignorant of them that they believe this area is dangerous. Take a look at the news and you can find that most school crimes occur in high end, rich areas! Rancho High School's magnet program and ROTC are nationally accredited and ranked! And the 'general population' as some like to refer to them, are students whom work hard and share a sense of school spirit. Unity, education, and safety are top prioritites in this school. I am proud to say I am an alumni from Rancho High School!
