It's a small school and it seems every teacher and administrator knows each of the kids. Kids from different grades play together. The teachers and administrators worked together to create the opportunities our daughter needs to grow without making her feel isolated or stigmatized. There is even a Music program and the special resource teach puts on two music pageants each year. Parents can talk with the Principal any time that's needed; she's very accessible.
The teachers have committed to Place-Based Curriculum which means each class has projects throughout the year that center on the Tahoe environment. K raised chickens, 1st went to see the trout spawn, 3rd is going to the planetarium.
ZCES has an active Parents Club that adds so many wonderful resources and activities. This year each teacher got extra funding to take a 2nd field trip. Parents and teachers organize Math Night, Family Literacy Night, Science Week, Walk-a-Thon and Field Day to bring the school and families together.
The smallness of the school and that the Principal is very accessible really encourages honesty and integrity in the kids. Ask any kid about the "Desk of Better Choices" and they will explain that if they get sent out of class, they have to visit that desk :)
ZCES is a school that knows each and every student. We make it a priority to meet each student's academic needs by differentiated instruction and small group or individualized instruction. Our teacher know their students and do everything they can to help their students succeed on a daily basis. W are small school and because of this, we are a family of learners in this community.
