The school fosters excellence in the arts and academics. Student scores in all areas are above average and some have been near the top in state testing. The art program is outstanding. Sports are OK. They have a wonderful and caring staff who really know their students. The town needs to do a better job financially supporting the schools and funding contracts for the teachers. GHS was named a Silver Level National High School by US News for 2013.
The principal knows what is going on in the building and the guidance counselors and teachers care about individual students. This is a great school that saved my son from maybe hating school (in Manchester before transferring here). He is at UNH now and very well prepared. Thank you GHS!
I would like to refute some of what the previous reviewer says. This school spends in the bottom part of the state per student but with those bare bones funds students at this school score far above the state and national averages on AP exams, the ones that students that care take. Other test scores which are about average levels are taken by students that don't care about reflecting themselves or their school in a positive light. It means nothing to them so they make pretty designs on their answer grids or leave test pages blank. These extremely low scores by a handful of students bring down the other scores. Welcome to real life. If you want to be successful you will be.
This school does not push students. If you enetr GHS and you are an achiever you are going to do well. If not, you are going to need outside help because neither the teachers nor guidance are going to do the pushing. Tendency to blame parents for students lack of results. Principle in commencement address stated that GHS was a great place to learn and do well if you were the type that pushes yourself, so it appears the wrong attitude begins at the top. This school has a history of poor test results as well.
This School has no concern or regard for students who do well. These students in the average range are not pushed to do better. This school lacks follow through on all topics.
This high school is an excellent place to learn how to grow and become independent. The teachers care about their work and make sure all students understand their potential and understand the opportunities they have here at GHS. We are offered a large variety of courses and oppions. MST, charter school, graduate early? They have it all. The school is extremely clean and kept up to date. The guidance counselors are awesome and the secretaries are nice everyday I walk in. In there you are sure to get loads of information for college and all the help you need on following the path to get to where YOU personally want to be. The student are open to new comers.I was one last year and everyone I've met has been real nice. This is a great high school! Sincerly , Student
