I am a recent graduate from this school, & its focus is primarily on achieving high grades -- not the student's well-being, unique abilities, or character, & leave students to manage it on their own. What the school wants is high scores that they can show off. Many programs such as the arts and theater are slowly going away, and they are enforcing more math and science. Only a few of the teachers there know what they're talking about, and there were only about two or three that inspired me -- the rest I hardly learned anything important from. Also, this school finds sports very important. Not saying that it's necessarily a bad thing, but one year during a veteran's day assembly, they cut it short to talk about sport achievements, which I thought was entirely inappropriate. However, the school does have some good qualities. They have a very friendly, non-racist and close environment, though it isn't a diverse population. It's mostly white middle to upper middle class families, with a few black families. Many of the students get involved with extra-curricular activities such as sports and the like. The school, as I said above, does have high test scores, which is a good thing, too.

Hollis-Brookline High School has improved a great deal since this last posting (five years ago). A change in leadership four years ago has brought a sea change to the culture of the school: the administrators are fantastic, loved by both students and faculty. We have received national recognition from U.S. News and World Report and from Newsweek as one of the top schools in the country (one of only two from the state of NH). Students in the graduating class of 2009 are going to such prestigious colleges as MIT and Dartmouth. Extracurriculars include clubs like the Robotocs FIRST team, Granite State Challenge (beating the private school Exeter Academy this year), National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, and the Math Team (see hte school website for a complete listing). The athletic teams provide students with top-notch experiences and many have received state recognition. Amazing value for a public school!

Great School! Beautiful facilities and wonderful teachers. Very rich town, which often leads to snooty students. Drugs are present like at all schools. Great Academics. Successful sports teams. Students are very welcoming. Not too big or small. Scored the highest in sophomore testing BY FAR. Administration is not not not liked by the faculty. In school politcs are very present. However, I am searching for negatives. It is an amazing school-- My sister is going to Bentley and claims she was extremely prepared. Students are very competitive; in fact, fourty students are above a 4.0 in the current seniors class. Also, the class of '05 score an average of 1100 on their SATs. Extremely impressive! Once again, great school and I highly reccomend it!
