MVVS has a great student body, a wonderful facility, and the teachers are for the most part outstanding and committed. The small class size helps build community, but can be stifling, depending on the child. In addition, the close-knit nature of the community may feel provincial and exclusive at times. However, the disconnect between test scores and the parent reviews speaks to a structural issue, which speaks to a leadership issue. This is why so many parents are taking their children out of the school. The principal is committed to driving the school to mediocrity. She appears unwilling to address real problems (such as the few truly toxic teachers at the school), has multiple times refused to respond to concerns with classroom issues, and seems incapable of getting a reasonable school budget passed. I come from a long line of educators and have seen good number of principals over our the course of our children's education. This is frankly the poorest I've seen. All-in-all, what I see in the school is committed and talented teachers compensating for a principal who is simply out of her depth.
A terrific quaint school in the Village of Mont Vernon. A great education with caring students and teachers.
We moved here one year ago, and having thoroughly researched the data on the web, I must say this school surpasses the numbers of the results. It is intimate, caring, personal, creative, and challenging to the students here. I am very pleased with all aspects of the school so far.
MVVS has a great group of teachers and parent support. The class sizes are small giving it a private school feel. I have been a teacher there for several years and I am always impressed with the parent support within the community. The teachers are hard workers and dedicated to giving the students a top notch education.
The staff at MVVS are extraordinary in talent, the parent involvement is unsurpassed (as represented by repeated Blue Ribbon PTA awards, and the class sizes are very low. Every child in this school receives a superb education.
