I am currently attending it and I really like it. Academics are great and although I don't really take part in sports, I am very impressed with the sports program and their commitment to keeping their students healthy. I am happy here and as far as high school goes, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
My son attends the school the gounds are wonderful the academics are challenging. The community feeling is fantastic. The teachers are first rate educators and student advocates; they support encourage and push to exceed expectations. My son says the food is great,
I have two sons who attend New Hampton and I cannot say enough about the culture of the school. I find that the staff is very committed, the coursework challenging, and everyone very welcoming. I could not think of a better place to have entrusted the future of my boys!!!
Our child is entering his Junior year at New Hampton School, and my wife and I can say, without hesitation, that sending him to New Hampton is one of the best decisions we've ever made. The faculty and staff are outstanding, the school community is open, welcoming and unpretentious, and the quality of education is remarkable. As some have mentioned earlier in the reviews, comments that are more than 5 yrs old should be ignored. The school that many of the old reviews refer to, in no way resemble the New Hampton School of today.
Be wary, no disciplinary review board(a boarding school anomaly).. For 50 grand the Dean of students is not accountable to the handbook so discipline is inconsistent.
I do not know where I would be without New Hampton. It is amazing. I am able to do the sports I love and have awesome classes and teachers. Andrew Menke, Chris Little and Dan Love are wonderful. Would not change anything.
Caveat emptor. It would be wise to pay attention to each and every review listed here. Private HSs are too expensive (especially NHS) to make a bad choice.
I graduated from New Hampton in 2010 and am now in my second year at a small liberal arts university. I would not trade my experiences at New Hampton for anything! There are often times now when I wish I could go back and do it all over again. The community environment at NHS is truly amazing. Faculty, staff and students alike are friendly and supportive. New Hampton community members care about your success, not only in the classroom, but in the dorm, on the fields, and on the stage. At New Hampton, you are given the opportunities and tools to excel. New Hampton will forever hold a special place in my heart. It is not only a great school, but fosters unbelievable friendships. A little over a year since I graduated, I still crave the opportunity to go back and visit campus. I would recommend New Hampton to any high school student looking for something more personal, because New Hampton is not simply a school, it is a community.
I am an alum from the class of 2010 and I cannot say enough good things about New Hampton. I am in my second year of college at a really fun university, but I still wish I could go back to high school to be a member of the little community I grew to love and be a part of. Everything about New Hampton promotes a close knit community from it community service Saturdays to its open dining hall and community meals. New Hampton is a place where you can see your teachers in the classroom, on the soccer field and in the dining hall so you get to know them on a personal level, not just as the person who assigns you homework. There are so many food and activity options and the school spirit was great when I was there and from what I hear is getting even stronger. On my breaks from college, I go home and visit the school. It is a place I love and I work to keep in touch with it.
I am a parent of a sophomore (2nd year) at New Hampton. I am a trustee at another independent boarding school as well as a trustee at an Ivy league college. New Hampton is an excellent educational institution - even better than I anticipated. Anything that you read from before 2009 should be disregarded. The leadership team (led by Andrew Menke) and the faculty have created a holistic learning environment that is both challenging and nurturing. The International Baccalaureate program offers a unique opportunity for those who chose it but also allows other students to stretch in areas of interest. The school community is upbeat and optimistic. They have a great sports program for those who are interested but also a very nice recreational program for whom athletics is neither a strength or a focus. I get frequent and helpful updates from the dorm head and advisor. Teacher comments are extensive and to the point. If you want to get a great education with lots of individual attention at a school without an elitist attitude, New Hampton is the place for you. Visit it and I bet you will be favorably impressed.
nothing to say just was the best you truly become family there no mater who you are there is a place for you and the support the teachers and coaches give to you is second to none. i wish i went through all of HS not just as a pg. the teachers were there for you no mater what it was you could come to them and they would do their best to help. one more thing is if you have an interest or passion that they can not provide for you they will do their best to accommodate you in some way.
My son is at New Hampton currently and loves the School. No one has left because they hate it. The prior review is not accurate and probably from a disgruntled student who was expelled. Come see the New Hampton School and you will see a very happy group of students.
Ignore the negative reviews posted in 2007. They are submitted by a few disgruntled parents and teachers that are no longer affiliated with the school. The new change in leadership with Dr Andrew Menke has brought a much needed mission to the school. He has brought a renewed sense of pride, a campaign to upgrade facilities (new math and science building opening Fall 2009, a new turf athletic field opened in 2008 and a new hockey arena commencing construction soon), a campaign to increase the endowment and a focus on moving the curriculum to the future. The one thing that separates New Hampton from most all the other boarding schools in the region is the people. They genuinely care about the students. There is no pretension here as you see in some of the old New England boarding schools. The advisors/teachers consistently communicate with parents.
These reviews are very disturbing. I am a current student at New Hampton and it is a great school. If you are no longer here then you do not know what happens in the dorms and on campus. Things are getting tighter there is greater punishments being put in place. If you are to write a bad review please be bold enough to put you name. Jake Billett Current student
i am a current student of new hampton school. i feel that the current reviews of my school do not justify what an amazing environment i live in. i love every aspect of new hampton. the sports, arts, and even the classes. i have teachers who are a phone call away, and available to help with difficult classes, and also personal matters. new hampton is undergoing a change in administrators, and knowing what the past administrator was like, i feel that we are moving forward in a positive way both as a school and community. campus was chaotic before, when the great 'beedy' was installed. although he did make many beneficial contributions to new hampton, they were done without future planning and consideration. the transition has been difficult, but i am most happy when i am surrounded by my friends, teachers, and coaches at new hampton! :)
heartbreaking, absolutely heartbreaking. As a member of the graduating class, i have been a student of NHS for four years, and played a part in its many programs for over a decade. Once run by the charismatic, wise, and understanding headmaster Dr. Jeff Beedey, the school is now run by a group of unsatisfactory, outdated, soulless, money-oriented individuals, including the recently-installed headmaster Andrew Menke. Upon my admission to the school four years ago, all of the students and faculty were on a first-name basis with one-another, and were comfortable talking about their personal lives freely.now most of the students fear the staff in a manner similar to that of a secret police. what good attributes remain are only there as a facade for the new administration, or because they have not yet snuffed them out. avoid NHS at all costs, it is not the school it says it is.
As a former teacher, I am glad to no longer be a part of this community. A change in leadership led to the 'annointing' of several administrators who clearly lacked the experience, education, and personality to run the school effectively. Academics are weak, attitudes are rotten, the dorm parents let students get away with murder, and the students know that consequences are minimal.
I have one child who recently graduated and another who will attend this year. The recent graduate had a transformational and diverse experience. She served her community, was introduced to 2 new sports, and was involved for the first time in fine art. She was able to take honors and AP courses in her academic areas of strength and supported in her areas of weakness. In all areas of school life her talents were celebrated boosting her self- awareness, self-advocacy and ultimately, her confidence. Her college choices far exceeded our expectations as parents; this is a tribute to the excellent education and counsel she received. My child has grown from a naive child into a confident, prepared, and philanthropic young lady. I am confident my younger daughter will also be celebrated for her unique talents. This ability to see each student as an individual sets New Hampton School apart!
My son is going into his Senior year and has been at New Hampton School since he was a sophomore. His experience has been incredible. We have been absolutely impressed with eveything about the school. From academics, to athletics, to social life-he has been extremely happy and successful. He has taken advantage of challenging courses and found all teachers to be available at any given time. It is obvious that the Head of School has a passionate vision for NHS and has wasted no time in making necessary changes. These changes have been instrumental in improving the entire operation and integrity of the school. We feel our son is extremely prepared to face the academic and athletic challenges of college as a result of his time at NHS.
My daughter had a fabulous first year. The teachers are great and the extra circular activities fantastic. She was in a warm, friendly and family like living enviroment. The sense and spirit of the community is rebounding after some difficult years of wayward leadership. The current administration is creating a solid foundation to launch the next great rise of NHS. It takes time, heavy lifting and putting the right people in the right places. I am very satisfied as a parent that my daughter lives in a safe, secure and caring enviroment. They are teenagers after all. It is differnet from the flavor of the month philosphy of years past that peole drew out as a remarkable community. There are always some ruffled feathers in any situation of change. The big picture is NHS continues to excel and we are excited to witness the momentum in her education.
