The school has some great teachers as most schools do. The administration is very unprofessional. The principle Steve Potasik is unprofessional, disrespectful, and shows little compassion for students. Some of the special ed staff are wonderful - but not all. Depends who your child gets as a case manager. This is a good school if you have a perfect little angel with no issues. My child has been there for Grades 3 &4.
Moving here from a top school district in a large city, I was concerned my kids would be "stepping down" their education - I couldn't have been more wrong! They stepped right into the same curriculum they left, not missing a beat. The teachers and staff are fantastic - a smart, loving, truly invested group of educators. They are a close-knit group who remind me that "it takes a village to raise a child". I like this "village". Like anywhere in life, you are likely to find someone who "float your boat" personally, but it would be unfair and untrue to say any teacher in this school is not qualified or effective in their teaching. Kids leave prepared. The school is very parent friendly - volunteerism is encouraged and welcomed, but not shoved down your throat. Great extra curricular activities as well - Shakespeare Club, Chess club, before and after school care available. Winter activities, music concerts, educational field trips, assemblies, family activities, and an active PTO...a great school all-around. I have never regretted our move to this school district.
The teachers are average, with the exception of a few really great ones. Unfortunately, the principal(Dr. J) retired, and his replacement is an out of touch, Massachusetts guy. He is not a good fit for the school. I asked a few of the teachers what was the deal with this guy, and they said things like....what can we do other than wait until he moves on. Get ready for more subsidized lunches..and lower test scores.
This school is absolutely amazing. It is safe and clean. The principle is an amazing leader who promotes differentiated teaching methods to appeal to multiple learning styles. The teachers truly care about their students. The school will work to meet individual learning needs of each child. I know this because we have two children that attend and have completely different learning styles.
I have had 2 boys at this school. One going into the middleschool this year. Dr. J the principal is very invested in the students as is assistant principal Kelly Collins. The school is small, tight knit and very supportive. The parent and teachers work together to solve any problems and the education is top notch!
