ConVal is an amazing school. Hard work and a dedicated team of teachers, counselors and administrators have facilitated a dramatic and very real cultural shift. Are there challenges at CVHS. Sure, find a school without any problems and I'll show you a school you don't know much about. The point is if a student is in trouble, in most cases a PEER or dedicated teacher will intervene and bring the issue to administration. This practice is the rule not the exeption at conval, at most schools peers hide problems, "cover" for peers and function or an enabling role. The cultural shift at CVHS Is a result of hard work and good leadership. Trust that trust and a nurturing, well structured environment is rare and pure GOLD. Kids feel safe and supported at Conval. Some folks seem to love to attack and criticize progress for a variety of personal reasons that have nothing to do with the schoo. FIVE STARS -Conval staff reflect the highest standard of integrity, professional practice and a level of commitment rarely seen in education today. Most of all CVHS is filled with great students. Any parent would be PROUD AND GRATEFUL to be a part of the CONVAL COMMUNITY.
I am currently a sophomore at ConVal. There are some great teachers, and the drama and other fine arts programs are exceptional. Although these are community events that bring the school some money, the district prefers to spend their money on sports such as football (which we are terrible at). Another problem I have is that the running teams are constantly ignored. We are never mentioned in the announcements, and the other teams and coaches disrespect our track. The district also refuses to spend the money to replace the track. We are now unable to host meets because of the unsafe track. This school does prepare others for college, but I would not recommend it for the emerging runner or actor.
Probably the biggest issue with the school, similar to the rest of the the state, is the lack of funding put into sustaining/improving the building. Classroom space is tight, and many facilities, like the theater, are inadequate.
I have had 2 students at Conval. Both were prepared well for college. One [is]still a senior heading for cum laude in Math and the other a Professional Dancer Magna Cum Laude BFA in Dance. I have no complaints except the lack of importance the principal gives music.
