Learning Skills Academy is the best thing that ever happened (educationally) to our son. The Staff is kind, caring and engaging with all the students as well as the parents. You truly feel that they care for your child and you.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

More from this school
  • Learning Skills Academy is a private, non-profit day-school located on the New Hampshire seacoast serving students in grades four through twelve, ages 8 to 21. We are a small, close-knit community of nineteen qualified staff, most with multiple certifications, and up to thirty-two students. LSA offers a comprehensive school experience; students attend classes and learn curriculum as delineated in the state's curriculum frameworks. Our programs are guided by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the New Hampshire Rules for the Education of Children with Disabilities. Our policies align with federal and state regulations regarding special education, and our staff administers state-mandated assessments. Each year, the curriculum is presented through the prism of a school-wide and year-long theme. Our 2009-2010 them is &#34The Faces of the Earth.&#34 Language-based instruction is used in all classes and students spend as much time as they require in our Language Lab. Individualized programs facilitate development of decoding, encoding, fluency, comprehension, visualization, and phoneme segmentation skills. Our Speech and Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapist provide individual and group therapies, as appropriate. Friday schedules alternate between field studies which enrich the classroom curriculum and Adventurelore, an outdoor adventure-based counseling program that develops self-confidence and group cooperation skills.
