Barnegat High School

I have two students at BHS and I think like life, this school offers a multitude of options you just need to look for them and take advantage of them! FOLLOW the rules and this school has a lot to offer. I couldn't commend the staff and teachers enough for the way they have helped my oldest child. MW-parent

Barnegat HS is brand new with state of the art technology. Their focus is not merely academic but includes a strong emphasis on mental health, sexuality, foreign language, equality for all, & promotes the arts while so many other schools neglect the arts feeling somehow it is less important than academics. As a psychologist, I can assure you, individuals with a musical background demonstrate better math skills The teachers primararily hold advanced degrees & aproach subjects with a modern & mature attitude that is parent friendly & 'individually' respectful & makes use of interactive technology. The athletic department reminds us always that fitness, competition, fun, & respect for self as well as oppenents are of equal importance. This school is not as bad as people make it sound. Kids like to complain its what they do, so going on the fact that your son or daughter says it 'boring' is not exactly an objective veiw. The teachers are very relateable being that they are all very close to the students in age, it is easyer to connect to thjem and grasp what they teach. However the school is very disorganized at times and rules are taken too seriously. Being late to lunch can get you a detention depending on the mood of whatever teacher walks by, teacher can also be a little trigger happy with their detention slips. But dispite its faults barnegat high school works and the size is great because everyone know each other and there really aren't 'clicks' so friends are very easy to make

As one of the first graduates from Barnegat, I can say that going to school at the new high school. I was there from the beging and, while there were a few bugs to work out in the begining, the school has grown and matured along with the students who went there. My brother is attending BHS now as a junior and is involved in at least four extracurricular activites. In my own personal experience, the teachers that work there are phenominal and are willing to work with the students to help them acheive their academic goals as well as be there for them if they just need some one to talk to. The work was challengin, but not overwhelming and accurately prepared me for my college career. The principal is one of the best I have met. He listens to what parents have to say and cares about each student.

I have two children that attend BHS. While kids will always complain about something, my girls love their teachers. My daughter is a senior and has been well prepared for her future. Both of them have worked hard, and she has been accepted into a great college. As far as the principal, he has been there for us through some very hard times in our family, and I am thankful beyond words.

My child is a senior at Barnegat H. S. and has had a wonderful experience. The quality of education is superb. Even though there are not as many electives as Southern Regional, there are as many if not more AP classes. The sports program is expanding, as are the music and arts departments. While some students struggle, others flourish. But isn't this the same in all schools. Kudos to the principal and staff. They have come a long way in four and a half years.

My daughter had graduated fromthis school and I think this school has been VERY unorganizied. I feel they have opened the doors way before they were ready to do so. And I am not the only parent to feel this way. My son went to Southern and it was much more organanized. I feel all Barnegat wanted to do was make sure everyone graduated whether they were ready or not. The kids weren't even given the classes they needed to get into the colleges they had dreams they had going to. So when they applied to the colleges they then realized they were never given the correct classes so all their dreams went down their tubes which I think was just terrible because what they wanted to do inthe the future was NOW Gone!

This high school is disfunctional. It is run without any boundaries. The teachers are no guidles about what they can say. It is run like a grade school. The Principal wants to hear no complaints from students and guardians. He lets everything go. This is why MOST students if asked wished that they still attended Southern.

The teachers are either very simple not preparing you at all or give too much unnessisary work overloading students with worthless information. I attend all honors classes and they are not as perplexing as I would hope as they do not chalange but just assign more work then the average classes. There is an extreme lack of electives and oppertunities for students to take advantage of. It would be slightly decent if there upperclassmen were given options to take more languages then spanish, french and italian. I'd say that students are held back in this school opposed to letting them spread their wings and fly. I attend this schools as a freshman.
