I loved growing up in this school system and watched my siblings do the same (we are up to 13 years apart and so I have seen a lot of the changes and a lot of what's been consistent). This school consistently has a personal touch and prioritizes it's students. Moved back to my home town because of it.

Develops grit: Agree

The students all tend to be high performing and hardworking academically. The downside to this being even a student who elsewhere might stand out in their class, will tend to be middle of the pack, and so this could be a little unmotivating. But for the most part it doesn't seem to be the case and the healthy amount of competition is more a driving force.

Develops respect: Strongly agree

Yes, have heard stories of schools elsewhere and I can not imagine the talking back and disrespect happening here. Even the 'bad kids' were generally liked as just being a little spunky and had good relationships with the teachers.

Develops empathy: Strongly agree

Very tight knit students. Many friendships that I know of that last decades. (My best friend being from second grade there is not a rarity at all).

Develops honesty: Agree

All in all the classes that graduate from here are an honorable bunch. I don't ever recall there being issues with stealing/cheating/etc beyond the odd case.

Teacher effectiveness: Very effective
July 14, 2015
The teachers are very innovative with ways of teaching and keeping students engaged. Some examples being: - having chess time in third grade where the teacher taught us and then gave us time to play - putting together a radio show as a project involving writing the script/story/coming up with sound effects/role play - electives / gifted and talented program/ and other ways of branching out of the main course curriculum - the annual art show ice cream social - 8th grade challenge (generally a group project involving research and production and solving for a problem presented that represents an issue relavant to that year) - journal writing to classical m usi - teachers that care enough to make book recommendations outside of the necessary reading when they see a kid likes to read ETC. I could go on. But point is I loved it there.

Teachers and administration are caring and go the extra mile, providing extra help when needed. Students' acts of 'doing good' and helping others are recognized and encouraged.

I think this a excellent school with many talented students. On the NJASK there are great scores. But on recess I think the kids need more fun like soccer nets or somethingg that involves sports besides basketball.

Great school. It is a small community and parents are very active in the school. Teachers have been great so far and the academics seem to be age appropriate. Many extra-curricular activities let children explore a variety of interests.

Excellent academic programs. many quality sports programs. Very good theater and music programs. Art progrms are limited. extracurricular activities include science, band, a number of different after school activities including cartooning, robotics, class trips to museums and other educational outings. parents are very involved in all aspects of the school. Over all a very sports oriented school.

Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
