Montessori Academy of New Jersey

Do your research! We were sadly, disappointed by a couple of teachers but also the work, or lack of. We are big fans of the Montessori method however, we didn't find all the "teachers" or "directresses" knew it well enough to create a productive and educational experience. Lots of parents were disappointed, large groups have left over the years.

My children attended this school from the time they were toddlers all the way through elementary, and it has been the best experience. The school does ask for close collaboration with the parents so that the child has consistency between home and school. During our many years of attendance, I have never seen a child (or family) fail, if there was agreement between the school and the parents. I have seen some parents who send their child to this school but then counteract everything which was done or taught by their actions at home. If you are looking for a place where your child is accepted for who they are, challenged to reach their highest potential, become truly caring human beings and be prepared for life, this place is certainly it. I would suggest to come see for yourself and also speak to parents, who's children have successfully finished the program.

While some parents swear by this school, I'd advise 'buyer-beware' based on my preschool child's unhappy experience. The major drawback to this school is the mental and intellectual inflexibility of its director and at least some of its teachers. If the child does not respond well to Montessori methods, their response is that the child has a speech, hearing, or learning disability - rather than that there is something about the educational experience that needs to be changed. Don't just listen to the theory; go see it in action. How many of the children look happy? Is there joy? Do the teachers seem to enjoy the children? After observing, then make your decision.
