The curriculum is outdated. The teaching technics are from the late 1990 s. Need to improve method of motivating young children to learn. Would not recommend school.

The children are learning to give of their time , talent and energy to those in need with food drives, and physical work for others.

Having been an alumni of the school and now having children attend, I have a great opportunity to compare. The academic programs have kept up with the times. There is a big focus on the basics (strong reading, strong writing), emphasis on using available tools and integrating diciplines(computer program is good and expanding)and a stronger drive in mathematics, from the basics in the lower grades to algebra in the junior high school grades. Class sizes are conducive to learning (averages about 13-15 per class). The specials (art, music, Spanish) are incorporated weekly (in the case of Spanish for the upper grades it's multiple days/week). The sports programs are good and expanding (competitive basketball for both boys and girls) and looking at additional teams, and the afterschool activities (cheerleading/chess/forensics/Madscience) give the kids ample opportunity to stay involved. Parent involvement is huge, not just because it's required, but because they want to.

It takes a little more to be a Mustang! The bar is set high at St. Mary's. More is expected and more is received. More is expected of the students and more is expected of the parents. Working together the parents have made the school a very close, tight-knit community.

I am happy to say that since transfering our children from the public schools to St. Mary's they have been working at a higher level. The principle and teachers are caring people that have the childrens best interest at hand. St. Mary's is teaching above the public schools. They have so much going on at the school, Humanities programs, DANA Computers, Musical instruments lessons, Mad Science, Spanish (beginning in K), there is just not enough room on this page to list them all. I know that my wife and I made the best decision for our children by sending them to St. Mary's Prep.
