We started at St. Matthews in Kindergarten when the public schools went to 1/2 day. We felt like we needed a full day classroom environment for my daughter and this school was close and affordable. At the time we thought we would do 1 year and then consider the public school system again. After the first year we made friends and were active in the school community. The teachers are great and my daughter has enjoyed every year so far and is doing very well. The school is a bit behind some of the others when it comes to technology but that is what I do for a living so she gets plenty of that at home. Overall my wife and I really enjoy the school and being part of a vibrant community of parents and kids that surround it. I rated parent involvement high but that is for the parents of the grade my daughter is in now. I do know that some of the other grades do not have the same level of parent involvement.
Not a Catholic population. As practicing Catholics, my sons were the minority in each class. Education was sub par. I did a lot of 1:1 instruction with my boys to compensate. Few of us paid full tuition while others "need based" ( unemployed by choice) went for free. Tough call as the schools in Edison are so undesirable. Best advice is to move out of town. We did. Much happier.
I love St. Matthew School because is a safe, loving, caring environment where the theachers motivate students to do better. The students are happy and eager to go to school. My daughter transfer in second grade and from he very first day she felt happy and welcomed. There is great parent involvement and we all want to make the school a better place.
St Matthews is a great place to send your children. The new principal has done a nice job this year enhancing programs and continuing to build Christian values. The education provided is top notch. My daughter who now is in high school outperforms her peers in math do to the great foundation provided at St Matthews. The school and campus have plenty of room and are well maintained. There is a balance throughout the year of high work levels and fun activities for the children. The access via the computer to homework and grades is wonderful. My son returns home every day with the correct amount of homework and activities. Both of my children have developed a network of long life friends. When my daughter returns to visit she is literally welcomed with open arms
St. Matthew's is the gem in an area of mediocre schools. It has a long history of success (just talk to any alumni) and with the new administration the academics are even more challenging. Still, the faculty continues the nurturing environment Catholic schools are known for. The area public schools are subpar - Edison High School has been threatened with a State Takeover because of low standardized test scores. Some negative comments on this board come from parents who were asked to leave (check their spelling and grammar!) You won't find a better education in central New Jersey than at St. Matthew's!
I am glad that I am taking my child out of the school. My son hardly learned anything! Besides they have way too many holidays & half days throughout the year.
St. Matthews is a great school. In fact it's a high school prep school!
st matthew school is the worst. my kids are learning more in public school..im glad i took them out.
St. Matthews School is truly a ondersful school and provides a solid elementary education. Our family has been very pleased with the teachers, the principal and the administration. Our children learn a lot and participate in a wide variety of activities/projects. The children work on many projects that help the community and inspire creativity. Being a part of this school provides a sense of community like we are one family. The school mission of St Matthew School is to prepare each child, Nursery through grade 8, to achieve his or her full moral, spiritual and intellectual potential in a safe and nurturing Catholic environment.. The large campus is not cramped and there is ample parking. Please come take a tour of our school and you will see what sets us apart from all of the rest!
I used to be in Saint Matthew School, and now am in a public school. I moved because the teachers really don't teach you anything and they hardly give any homework or tests! There is no compition on the school work.
The sense of community at St. Matthew School is unsurpassed. Students do not need to be Catholic to attend the school, nor do teachers, yet all are given the opportunity to pray openly. Sharing special intentions within the classroom setting is a great way for students to gain insight into each other's lives and gives students an outlet to pray for the things that are on their minds within a supportive environment. The purpose of the school is not to force religion on anyone, it is a place where Jesus is simply provided as an example. As in any school academics are of utmost importance, teachers are highly qualified without the pressures of standardized tests and state funding. Finally, music and art are cherished and safe from the threat of losing funding or support.
I have been reading, in our local news, about overcrowded public schools, classes conducted in closets and lunch in classrooms. It made me think about the luxuries my children and I take for granted at St. Matthew School in Edison: pep rallies in the gymnasium, home cooked type meals in the cafeteria, an Art and Music classroom with piano, state of the art Computer Room, and many more amenities. St. Matthew s is a safe, bully-free school, where faith and Christian values are integrated in all areas of learning. The school s academic excellence is unsurpassed. So, I invite you to consider St. Matthew School, and learn what it can offer your children. We are so pleased with St. Matthew School. You might be, too.
The academic curriculum is very good but the real bonus is that my child is more like part of a family at St.Matthew School. She is allowed to pray and express feelings of care, and emotion for others without ever being ridiculed or told it's not allowed. She is taught the importance of being a good person and the ability to make a difference in the lives of others by the way she behaves toward them, just as Jesus had done. There is no other school that extends such focus in the classroom on the important values we teach at home! Parental involvement of families with similar values and school support is tremendous in this school!
