I recently graduated from Dwight Englewood School and it was the most amazing experience that I have ever had. I had been there for thirteen years and it became my home. To this day I still go and visit everyone whenever I am home on a break. The teachers really taught me how to think critically and excel academically. I have applied everything that I learned at Dwight Englewood to my college education. I think outside of the box and when I participate in college classes everyone is impressed. All of this started at Dwight Englewood. The teachers were always around to give me extra help and I developed close relationships with them. Whenever I visit D-E and I walk down the hall all of the teachers give me a warm welcome and ask how I have been. No matter where I go I am always a part of the Dwight Englewood community. The friends that I made at Dwight Englewood are the people that will stick by me forever. They are kind and compassionate people and even though we go to colleges all over the country I still speak to them at least once a week and when we come home for breaks we are inseparable. Dwight Englewood has such a strong community that you won't want to leave!
For all the talk about diversity, this school wants children to fit their set profile. If you have a child that has a different learning style, I agree with the parent who said that the teachers do not want or do not know how to deal with this. The child is labeled as difficult, and that's the end of the story. Also, good luck if you are a working parent! SHMs hover around the school all day! Many activities but most of the useful ones take place during the day. There are also many children at a very young age with a sense of entitlement that pick on your child. The school does nothing to address this other than "anti-bullying assemblies". Many children are held back by parents and your child attending a certain grade at a normal age is the one labeled as "needing help". Principals are more interested in "selling" the school than anything else.
I am currently a sophomore at dwight-englewood. My learning experience has been a challenge: the workload is tough, but, in the past four years I've become a different person; one that is independent, fearless, & capable. DE has taught me I can achieve absolutely anything. The campus is beautiful. Teachers constantly seek to help students. My coaches have changed me for the better, & I can't thank them enough. The diversity at this school is marvelous; it has made such an imprint on my life. I've become an accepting person, & I know I can be accepted. DE isn't a school, it's a community. There may very well be competition at this school, but this leads to motivation. I couldn't love a place this much, & can't imagine graduating in 2 years. Thank you, dwight-englewood.
I currently go here and thankfully leaving to go to another high school. I say this because everything is so political based. If your parents are rich then congratulations your going to be accepted but if not too bad for you. You won't be put into advanced classes and so many grades are given out of favoritism of a students parents money. WARNING this school is getting worse by the year
My son is in Pre-K here and enjoys it, overall. However, he is having a tough time adjusting to the 'free/independent learning method (where the children picks what they want to do)' and his teachers are very uninterested or unable to adjust to his and other children's needs. I have another a step-brother who went through the upper school and loved it. I would say be wary of the pre-k program but the rest is fine and upper school is great.
Not only is it a great learning environment, Dwight Englewood is a school which focuses on creating a community, where everyone is encouraged to do their best.
I recently graduated from D-E and I can honestly say that it was an amazing experience that I will never forget. the teachers are friendly and always willing to help and unlike some competitive private school the atmosphere is always fun and friendly. I formed such a bond with everyone there and I can definitely say that my time at D-E prepared me quite well for college life at the George Washington University. Go Bulldogs!!!!!!!
Im a new ninth grader this year so im not aware of the 'ins and outs' of the schools curriculum and after school activities but so far the experience has been great and the transition into the school was surprising easy.
My daughters went here, and they were well prepared for college as independent thinkers. This school is first rate in every way. The teachers are bright and dedicated.
this is my first year here and it is a great school! It has definetley prepared me for college, and the teachers are great, too! They are there if you need them. The extra curricular activities are also very enjoyable. This is definetley my personal favorite, and i reccomend this school.
