My son started at Banyan School in October, 2012 in 5th grade. The school has been fully supportive of my son learning disabilities. They provide individual support for my son and have been very quick to adjust techniques when they found things not working or the need for more support. The Principal and teachers are extremely receptive for parental input and communicate issues as they arise. In addition to my son's improving academics, he has gained a tremendous amount of confidence. He has become open to new experiences and has developed socially. Banyan School encourages my child's potential and strengths.

Amazing school with great teaching staff. I have never seen my son run to school before. He is inspired to learn and made incredible progress since starting Banyan. Banyan teaching staff is a group of amazing and dedicated people that really care about our children's success. Needs of every child are met individually and parents are very much welcome to be a part of Banyan family. School environment is very friendly and welcoming. Children enjoy many extracurricular activities and social gatherings. The most amazing thing for us was our son's new-found love for knowledge and that is priceless.

After struggling in our home district for 6 years, my son, who has Cortical Visual Impairment, visited Banyan School and knew this was the school for him. The small class sizes and the dedicated teachers have made a world of difference. For a child with this type of disability, it has been critical to have teachers who are willing to talk to me and his private tutors to develop a coordinated approach to advance my son's learning. He reading skills have advanced 2 grade levels in a year. In addition to his academic growth, my son's confidence has improved. He loves to attend school! When talking to my son's private tutor, she indicated that her only regret was that we didn't find Banyan sooner!

I can't say enough about Banyan. My son has been a student for 2 years and he has blossomed. The small class sizes coupled with a truly loving staff makes the right combination. You feel the warmth and school spirit by just walking the hallways Props go out to mr camp in social studies, mr Rick in counseling and social skills, ms schenfeld in /reading, ms Michel in science and ms Wilson in math. These are just se of the teachers that my son constantly talks about The student body is diverse comprising mostly of children with learning disabilities without the behavioral issues. The have a school basketball for all levels plus they offer social activities for students on Saturdays. I highly recommend the school If you have any questions please call My cell and ask for Jeff 983-981-1937

Banyan is the most amazing school. The staff is the most dedicated, professional and caring I have ever encountered. We fought for and got an out of district placement for my daughter, and the difference in her is incredible. From her second week there, she rediscovered her love of reading -- I thought it was lost to her because she had fallen so far behind at her old school. Really can't say enough good things about Banyan!

I wrote a review in May 2011 and commented that the speech therapy could be stronger. In September 2011, the school made changes and the quality of speech therapy has greatly improved,. The new therapist does oral motor exercises and has a creative and effective approach for language development as well. Banyan can now better accommodate children with speech and language challenges.

I have struggled for many years to find the right school for my son, and Banyan was the only place that provided everything that I was looking for; an entire faculty who are more than willing to communicate with parents, a curriculum that suited my son, a fabulous PTO that includes family outings, and extra programs not found in other schools. My son is finally attending a school where he is accepted and understood.

Banyon School is a wonderful, special place which has made an enormus impact upon my son. It is a nurturing environment which not only stresses the importance of education, but social growth, as well. The entire program is integrated to reinforce methods of learning. Every one of my child's teachers communicates with my son's other teachers. Each child is addressed as an individual; my son gets the attention he needs because of small classes which contain no more than five or six students. My son was lost in the public school system; he has found himself educationally and has grown socially. He has become much more assertive and confident. My wife and I could not have chosen a better 'home' for our son.

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
