My son attended our local public school system until the 6th grade. At that point we realized that the public school was not providing our son with the education he deserved or the quality that our taxes were paying for. Teachers in the public sector frequently, are sub par or waiting for that magical age called retirement. Our child, as well as all children, are given one chance at an education and we were unwilling to accept what was being given to him. After much investigation and visitations of various schools we chose Haddonfield Friends. The staff are highly qualified, supportive and have chosen to be there. Which is evident in the atmosphere of the school, character of the children and support of administration The class sizes are small which to us is a positive. It allows for individual attention and the ability to expand on concepts and idea.. It's a private school, therefor it's not under the constraints of the state which had been one of our major complaints. We never thought of a Friends school as an option, due to finances but when there is a will there is a way. Come visit, talk to administration, see for yourself. You won't be sorry. we have no regrets!
HFS is a nice environment with children whose families care about their education, but the school itself is lacking in quality. I sent my children here for preK and kindergarten until we moved out of state. While my children were attending HFS, I was continually disappointed by what I encountered. They were shuffled from one activity to another during the day, and the activities never lasted more than one session (about 20 minutes). Not until my children reached kindergarten did they get to experience the group discussion of how to solve a problem or work on a project from more than one day. In preK, these skills are "taught" using isolated worksheets and cookie-cutter projects, such as matching, cutting and counting worksheets, instead of small group projects. This school formally teaches the children instead of getting them actively involved in the learning process. To be fair, the teachers do offer great opportunities for the children to share their ideas with their classmates through show and tell and circle time. This environment would be ideal if only the teachers chose to reorganize their classes or were more educated on matters dealing with early childhood education.
It has great teachers who care about the children.
From the very youngest of students to those who we send a tearful goodbye to every year, Haddonfield Friends School is like a family. The community environment fosters a love of learning while providing a nurturing environment for personal development. The Quaker values of our school shine through and you won't find one child left behind, but all of them soaring at the heights we know they can reach. I LOVE being able to teach to each student. The class sizes are just fantastic. I don't believe that one of our classes run past 18 students. As a former Friends School student, my days at a Friends School were the most excellent and influential educational experiences of my life. I have taught at other schools, but happily attained my goal of returning to a Friends School as a teacher to give back to this wonderful group of people what was given to me as a child. I could not recommend HFS more. Please come by for one of our Open Houses! We love guests. (I'm not getting paid to say this, by the way - it's all from the heart!!!)
Excellent learning environment with great teachers that truly care about the kids and push them to learn while making education interesting and personalized.
A good school for pre-K through 4th grade but boring after that.
