I am a teacher at public school and think sending my Son to Holy Family was the best thing I could have done. Kids are helpful and kind and the teachers truly care about the students.
Both of my children enrolled in Holy Family this school year. Initially, I was very nervous because I was uncertain about the academics offered at Holy Family. I must tell all that I am thrilled with the school. As an educator and learning consultant myself I can honestly say I am so pleased with the education my children are receiving in Holy Family. The families are all so warm and welcoming and there is so much for the children to do. They offer Bitty cheerleading for K- up, soccer, track, floor hockey, basketball, mad science and much more. There are endless family nights and dances. My children are in classes with fewer students than their previous school and are doing wonderfully. I would highly recommend Holy Family to all.
HFS has alot to offer in re: to academics as well as extra curricular activities. For ex:, computers/computer lab, science lab, honors math, newspaper, spanish, new 3 yr. program, intramural sports, as well as a variety of team sports. Academics are up to par and children are constantly being challenged. This such a great school.
Holy Family is a wonderful school with dedicated teachers and staff. I am happy with all the positive changes that have taken place.
When my husband and I were looking into elementary schools for our children, we chose Holy Family. The teachers and staff really care about the children and their education. There are so many programs offered beyond the basic academic classes and in the upper grades there is even an honors math program. Parental involvement is something very important to me and there is much of it here at Holy Family. You really fell like you are part of a close knit community. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
As parents of two children ( 4th & 7th),we have been there through all the changes and couldn't be happier. Improvements such as a new principal, some new teachers, a new three year old program, Honors Math, a Science lab, a computer lab, where students are taught Powerpoint, Excel, etc. not just games, Spanish, Art, Music, & a curriculum that is intergrated across all subjects, as well as a structured discipline plan & a strong emphasis on Catholic core values. Have there been changes? Yes! For the better? Absolutely! Anthony & Amanda Russo
holy family is a small elementary school filled with some really good teachers in the lower grades. once you reach 6th grade, it's over... The previous principal has kept a lot of 'ineffective teachers' here for a long time.
Liking or disliking what the new principal DOES is important. As far as inappropriate activities, I wish one would elaborate. I can testify that two of my children graduated from Holy Family within the last few years and are doing wonderfully as are any other children we keep in touch with. I feel very lucky that they had th e best in education available. It went much further than education which is what made Holy Family unique. I am sorry my third is getting jipped from what used to be..
Almost everyone makes the academic honor roll at HFS wheras this is not the same in public school. I want to advise all those interested in HFS to look at the Terra Nova Scores of the upper grades children, especially in Math where it is lacking ... If I didn't work here, my child would not be here. So glad he is graduating this year...
So glad I pulled my daughter outta that school. she is thriving in the public school sector. The public schools are much more advanced in all areas.
I agree with the above comments about the previous Science teacher. She was wonderful with the kids and parents as well as a great teacher. We will truly miss her. There will probably be a lot more people exiting 'this school' since the Science program was the best upper grade major subject in the school. Introducing an honors program in Math will contribute to hard feelings amongst the students in the school. PS The terra nova scores in math are very low.In this school, it is not what you know, it's who you know... where you work in the school, and who from your family coaches so you can play the whole game.
Thanks Sr. Kathleen for a job well done. You are trying to make hfs a better place. It will take many years til hfs is up to par with other area schools.
This is our first year with Holy Family, and the experience could not have been better. My son was doing terrible in the public school he attended. He started Holy Family, and started playing sports, making better personal choices, and even made the academic honor roll for the first time. I think the new principal is making strides to change the school for the better. This is not something that can happen overnight, but does seem to be happening. I highly recommend this school to anyone who is not satisfied with the public schools in the surronding areas. Our children are not just a number at Holy Family, every student counts. It is a shame that not all the parents who have had the privledge of sending their children to Holy Family realize this. This school is worth every penny to our family!
I am one of many parents that will be pulling my children from this school. The tuition has gone way up and our children are getting nothing to show for it. In my opinion it has nothing to do with the new principal. She came into an enviorment that put the children on the back burner and it's hard to overcome that.
Last year my 3rd grade child had an excellent year. So sad to see the teacher leave. Overall the new principal is wonderful although her lack of involvement in activities is a problem.
As I read the Asbury Park Press article dated 2/17/05 titled 'Mom Lauds Work Of Principal' by Joe Pike, I commend our new principal for addressing the lingering problem of bullying at our school. This has NEVER been addressed before by the previous principal. For the past few years, HFS has been going DOWNHILL...Parents shouldn't blame the new principal. They should blame themselves. There were situations that occurred while the old principal was in charge and many of these same parents didn't do or say anything to stop it. I think the new principal has and will continue to put the children first, not like the previous principal.
My family and I would like to thank our new principal for bringing her 'Christian Values' to HFS and leaving her favoritism behind, unlike her predecessor. Our new principal treats every student alike irregardless of who their parents are or what their socioeconomic status is. We hope that she stays forever and sincerely appreciate all that she is doing to try to make HFS a better place and an improved academic and moral school.
Thank you for our new principal and improved acadenmic programs. The sports remain the same with a certain family running the whole board (although all of them were not elected) and letting their kids run the show while others are sitting on the bench who shouldn't be there. Please bring back our previous Athletic Board.
I did it. Pulled my boy after one week in that hell hole. I just hope he does ok in his new school. I just can not believe the changes and the people that have been put in leadership roles up there. I am happy we are gone.
