Despite Ho-Ho-Kus being known as a district with an adequate school system, as I recent alumni I have come to the conclusion that frankly, this school is basically a joke. It is extremely easy and the students are trashy and not diverse, to say the least. The school is very small and for preschool through eighth grade, it feels cramped. The facilities are old and disgusting except for a very small part of the school where grades 5-8 are basically squeezed into a hallway. This school claims they participate in a program known as "No Child Left Behind," but clearly they do not. Students who learn differently than others are treated like they are worthless and the teacher's couldn't care less about them. The faculty is immature and only a few teachers are above average. The rest of the teachers are rude and unprofessional. The athletics program is terrible and they use inexperienced teachers as "coaches." Also, there are no clubs for anyone to participate in. Every aspect of this school is inefficient; from the large class sizes to the amateur teachers to the trashy typical kids you would expect in such an overrated are. For what it's worth, send your kids to a good private school.
Overall Ho-Ho-Kus Public School is a great place for students to learn. The expectations are high, students are above average in academic ability, and like most all schools there are excellent teachers and some who aren't, but all have the best interest of the student at heart. Administration is effective and makes the most of difficult circumstances when an outstanding school is desired without taxes breaking the back of community taxpayers.
I love this school! i am a sutdent at ho-ho-kus school, and am recieving an excellent education. The teachers and circulum are fantastic, which is a basic componet of a good education. The extracirricular activities are awesome and there are tons or clubs to get involved in. The skills and concepts that we are learning are sure going to help us later on in life! this is the best school!
I am a recent alumni from this school. Upon graduating and attending a local private school, I realized that my basic skills were far less superior than that of my new peers. Ho-Ho-Kus school has a terrible math program, due to the fact that none of the teachers are consistant. With still poor english and science programs, Ho-Ho-Kus school still is not up to par and does not give proper high school preparation. In my personal opinion, Ho-Ho-Kus school did not give me a good education.
