Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

Both of my children are excelling in all subjects at Switlik. I've been lucky enough to be a class mom & in the PTN so I'm in the school on a frequent basis. It's evident that the teachers enjoy working there. The principal & asst. principal are easy to talk to if/when needed. So glad I moved near this school before I had my kids!

Why are the little children - K and 1st graders in trailers? Why are the test scores for Switlik one of the lowest in all of Ocean County if the school is so 'great'?? I am zoned for this school and refuse to send my kids here until I hear about actual improvements.

Switlik has encouraged children to learn and they have succeeded. My nephews are at the top of their classes and enjoy school because of Switlik. They definately deserve the Kudos and the money to continue helping children broaden their education with their skills in teaching.

Switlik is a great place to work every day. The staff is hard-working and dedicated, which shows as you walk through our building and peek in the classrooms. We do the best we can to make our students feel welcome and supported on a daily basis. Only the best is wanted for them!

Switlik's administrators, teachers and support staff work together as a cohesive unit always striving toward the goal of 'excellence in education.' As a result of their dedication and a caring, loving atmosphere they provide our children with the foundation necessary to face life's challenges and responsibilities and better prepare them for their roles as the future leaders of this nation.

Switlik may be an old school but it's one of the most spirit-oriented schools in town with character, charm, warmth and a caring staff. I've been at this school for over 10 years with three children and am sorry to have to say good-bye this June with my youngest graduating. Having served on its PTN for five years, I have grown especially attached to the students and staff at this special school. I will miss Switlik, its wonderful staff and all the great memories.

I am disappointed with this school. They need to clean house of all the teachers that can't do their job properly. I have had nothing but issues with most of the teachers and the Principal at this school. I am pulling my son and daughter out of the public school district due to their incompetence. This school district is only worried with the academic numbers the students can provide for the the ask exam given every year...They could care less about the students overall.

Switlik is a great school because of the support of the staff. The staff works together to help the students become successful and to work to their fullest potential! We work extremely hard to help our children learn how to become good citizens in school and in the community.

Switlik elementary school is over 50 years old. The staff often make do on less funding. There is a positive and optimistic energy that envelopes you the minute you walk in the door. The positive focus on the children is contagious and it helps the parents to be more involved. There is a true sense of community amongst the parents, teachers, children and employees. Children learn what they live and switlik is an awesome place for children!!!

I have 2 kids in this school, I am so surprised by the less than favorable reviews written. I have had 2 out of my three children in trailers in over a 4yr period. With no complaints...I have paid thousands of $ for private schools in which my kids were more accessible to by a strange. In fact I am so at ease that they are secure and loved the fact that they have their private bathrooms, which you would never realize unless you see them go into it yourself. I am very happy with my my experience with the front desk and for the person who reference bullying, you must have left Switlik a long time ago...it is emphasized and absolutely not tolerated.

I have had many issues with this school. My child is a fourth grader and sits in the middle when it comes to learning. Not a failure but not a good student. There is no place for her apparently when it comes to having help. I have made a bid deal about it the last two years and have gotten her help. But if I didn't, she would be swept under the rug. The main office is very inefficient, unpleasant and when it comes to leaving messages or needing to contact a teacher, they don't do their job. Very unsatisified with the performance of this school. The homework is overwhelming and stressful for a child that is so young. Very unfair that they are stressing them out at such a young age....

My children have been at Switlik Elementary two years, and I am very happy with the progress and success they have had. Every teacher they've had has exceeded any expectations. Look past the fact that the building and facilities need updating, that is superficial. What I hope parents are looking for is a school that will help their children be their best person and that is Switlik. I have never seen a more dedicated faculty of teachers who truly care about the children they teach. Both of my children had Ms. Shroyer for 1st grade and I have never met a more compassionate person. Ms. Kahn in Kindergarten blew my mind with what she could accomplish in 1/2 a day and Ms. Wardell is out of this world. If you are looking for a great school you have found it. They offer great programs, are nice and want parents involved.

My children attend Switlik and I think it is a wonderful school. All 3 of my children had Ms Temple for kindergarten and I do not think there is a better kindergarten teacher out there. my kids learned so much in the 2.5 hrs a day. In 3rd grade my son was struggling and his teacher Mrs Ackerman fought so hard to get him all the assistance he needed to succeed. She was really there for our family and wouldnt let my child become a statistic. These are just 2 of the teachers but I am going to say that all these teachers have a great dedication to thier students and I would not want to send my kids anywhere else.

I have been reading the reviews for this school and I must say I strongly disagree. Many of the newcomers to Jackson dont like it because it is old and the trailers. There is nothing wrong with trailers, I went to school in trailers at a Blue ribbon school myself. There are even private bathrooms in the trailers, they are very comfortable. I have never had any problems with the office staff but they are not rude. I can not say enough about the teachers they a I have 3 children in this school and have missed the redistricting twice and I am so glad I did. These teachers are so dedicated to their students. I also never had a problem with the administrators, the vice principal immediately phoned me back when I had a problem and I was invited to meet with the principal to discuss my sons learning problems

We were thinking of moving to Jackson, NJ specifically in an area where my child would be attending Switlik. Before we decided on this major move we wanted to make sure our child would be attending a good elementary school. So I contacted the front office and reading staff to set up an appointment. They were very vague as to when they had time to set up the visit. When I suggested a certain timeframe they said that they would try to get back to us. Very unacceptable! I don't expect a callback from them anytime soon. Needless to say this didn't sit well with us. It made up our minds as to relocating to this area. We can say that we will not be doing so.

I moved to Jackson 4 yrs ago and my children were redistricted from crawford to switlik. I have been extremely unhappy with this school for many reasons .I agree with the first response in regards to the front desk. Very rude and unwelcomeing. I am actually moving out of this town because I refuse to see my youngest children who are 4 and 18 mos. attend these schools. The trailer situation is appalling and for the budget to not have been passed to improve these schools is ashame.

I have many issues with this school. The children that need help are indeed helped with different programs. But what happens when you have a kid that is very gifted and every year you hear'I hope she was not too bored in my class' They need to do more in the way of challenging children. They also need to promote unity and character education which other schools in the district do. The building is in dire need of repair, and if you have a 2nd or 3rd grader, be prepared for them to learn in a trailer (there are about 19 of them) The board of ed in this town does not care what the people want, they have their own agenda. Thinking about moving soon.

This school needs a lot of work. There has been a no bullying policy put in effect some time ago. I don't think this school got the message. My son was called names, punched and bitten (yes, bitten) and I never even received a phone call and the vice principal never returned my calls! On one occassion the vice principal felt that since the 5th graders have been the top class at Switlik for two years (the fifth grade was added for the 2003-2004 school year), that the students felt like they owned the school and that maybe next year in the middle school it would be better for my son because they will all be starting over in a new school. Reassuring. I pay ($10k/yr) to have my child attend school elsewhere. May I suggest informing students of what is proper behavior and what is not?

My son and step son both attend Switlik Elementary. Grade 4 and grade 2. So far, i am very happy with the way the school has educated my boys. Although, honestly, i think there is a bit too much homework. I went to this school as a little girl, i was happy and now seeing things as an adult, I am proud to have my kids go to the same school as i did. I definitely rate this school to be # 1 in our town.
