Prep is such a great school that provides many great opportunities. It's the best school in the area.

our child attended for a few years. And unlike the 19 (only) glowing reviews here, we didn't find the school to be that exceptional. The school is quite average in academics and the hockey program was not impressive. Some great teachers, some not so great. After speaking with many parents whose kids did not flourish at the school (or after graduating) we took our son out and found a better school. Considering that St. Peter's is one of the only good schools in Jersey City, I think it looks better than it really is. When compared to the top notch programs in the country, it does not compete strongly.

My son had to get transferred from this school because he felt that he was left out because he was black. all the kids tried to leave him out of t hings in any way possible ; like not talking to him at lunch etc the only ethnic people in the school that dont have any problems are the people on the football team.

Where else can you go to high school and see the Statue of Liberty down one street and the Liberty Tower rising in NYC down the next?. Amazing place where boys become men. Their athletics are noted, but their performing arts improves with every year! Vox chorus won at 2012 World Choir Games and Jazz & Concert band flourish.. Their dramatics dept. just keeps attracting more and more hidden Prep talent! All students, athlete and scholar and artist, alike, respect eachother for their talents... no judging... and the diversity CANNOT BE MATCHED by any other boys private in the state! If your son wants diversity, it is here with a quality education and environment. Campus Ministry is unsurpassed and led by the most capable of women in Ms Maura Toomb. If you want to leave at 3:00, don't come to Prep. If you want to get involved and be open to growth on so many levels, the door is open. As for finances... don't think of it as a sacrafice, parents... think of it as an investment in your son's life and future. The Jesuits know what they are doing and do it well. AMDG.

this school is a very great school but if you are African American the other kids will not include/ and ostracize you from all social activities i recommend you to go to a different private school if you come from any ethnic back ground

There are too much academic reviews here. I am a current student and I just want to add the other stuff St. Petes has. If you love the athletics, this is the school to go. The football team is one of the best in the country and always sends a couple of kids to D-1 schools. Its basketball, wrestling, baseball, hockey, swimming, and track is always competitive in the state. I really want to say 5 stars, but the teachers in the school are either amazing, or just really bad. But the school is awesome and I love it!!

They truly embody the Jesuit tradition of creating "Men for Others." There is not a finer institution for young men.

I am a current student and couldn't be happier. When they say not prep for four years, prep for life, they mean it

First rate school with top shelf education. THey make well rounded men out of teenagers. Tuition a ridiculously cheap 7,000. Great bang for the buck. Extracurricular activities offer something for everyone.

I'm a recent graduate of Prep [class of 02]. I must say when I first went to Prep, I didn't like it, I was so afraid. To me it was just big. But by the time I graduated, I had to be dragged out of there. I made great friends, I still hang out with them. Our usual place to meet up is Prep. The Prep teachers are great! The teachers just go above and beyond their duty. Sure we all complained when they gave out tests but you know after we graduated, they wanted to continue the relationship. They were willing to go out to dinner with us. You can just sit there and talk to them about anything. Prep is just an awesome place, Prep just doesn't prepare you for college, it prepares you for life!

My sons and I all agree and this is a wonderful school. Prep students go on to some of the best colleges. Students are taught to think for themselves, and to learn ,care and appreciate others. They expect students to have high morals and behavior. This school is a bargin in the private school catagory. Well worth every cent.

This is a great school that i graduated from this year and enjoyed all the school offered. From the classroom to the playing field, St Peters Prep offers it all. They also provide students with many clubs such as student council, forensics, asian club, and dramatics. Also, the school's location is one of a kind that includes a view of the New York Skyline and is just a five minute walk from the local subways. The multicutural environment combined with the friendliest faculty, this is the school to send your child to.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
