All of the teachers and assistants simply love teaching kids and have done an amazing job to not only encourage our son in every subject but also to foster responsibility and self-discipline. The application of the Montessori method, combined with love and patience, makes for a fun, supportive, challenging, welcoming atmosphere.

This is a very academic school. my daughter has learned an amazing amount of knowledge. from math, to English, to history and geography. I cannot express my thanks to Ms Ada for passing on her knowledge to all her students. its a small and nurturing school. teachers are very polite and always attentive to every child. they also offer, music, dance, spanish and art class. Its amazing what my child can do and has learned so much.

We left this place after a very bad year. This is a small school, located in the dark basement of an old brownstone building. There is really only one big classroom, comprised of a wide range of age groups, all led by the one director/teacher Ms. Ada. The atmosphere in this school is of intimidation, oppression and fear. Kids are often scolded, punished and sent home in shame. My child had been shamed in public and punished multiple times for mundane "errors" such as picking her nose or talking during a lesson. I could feel a major change in my child's behavior that year. Ms. Ada doesn't spare the parents either. She was often very rude to me on the phone or in person. Parents are rarely invited to participate in school events and even coming for a casual visit or a chat about one's child is often discouraged. I strongly advise every parent who is considering this school to think twice before committing to this place.

This is an excellent learning environment for toddlers and pre-school kids. My son has been attending for two years and loves his teachers. Children here learn a great deal about the world and are more advanced in their knowledge than some older kids that I know, because they are exposed to so much. Can't say enough good things about the school, the director and the teachers!

Montessori school of jersey city, I just spoke with the director and to my surprise she is not only bad at talking to people she has no etiquette. She asked to mail $50 right way just to have the information whether they have any opening for 2.5 yrs. when I asked her can I come to take a look at your location before I pay $50 no refundable fee, she got furious and said she is not interested. How can she manage a Montessori with such a bad temper. You have to be courteous with parents. They are not your servants.

This is a great school. My daughter spent three years here and learned a great deal more than may be expected ather age. Teachers apply Montessori principles and methodology efficiently and are very patient. The curriculum is diverse, with excellent music, dance and arts and crafts lessons complementing strong reading, writing, math, geography and american history. A comment on one of the previous reviews: it is true that the school strongly prefers to focus on studies rather than dealing with "accidents", but, to be fair, they tell you up front and very clearly that children they accept must be fully potty trained, that's the requirement, not any particular age.

Very stong on academics. Its expensive but well worth the investment. It is a very warm and nurturing environment and you can tell the teachers love their jobs. Ms. Ada, the school s director, has a real passion for teaching and she can t wait to share what she s learned your child. It is a small school, outdoor space is limited, The school is not fancy but it is very warm and nurturing

I have only positive things to say about the Montessori of Jersey City. My daughter attended preschool here and my son is currently enrolled so I ve spent 5 years getting to know the school and it s staff. What initially drew my husband and I to enroll my daughter was seeing how engaged and interested the children were when we watched them in action during a typical day. It is a very warm and nurturing environment and you can tell the teachers love their jobs. Ms. Ada, the school s director, has a real passion for teaching and she can t wait to share what she s learned your child. The fact that my son is 4 and knows that Mogadishu is the capital of Somalia or that whales are mammals amazes me. But the best part is that he leaves me in the morning with a smile on his face and loves going to school. Yes, the school does accept 2.5 year olds, but it says in the school forms before you enroll that they must be toilet trained-which is why I waited until my son was 3 to send him. It s a school, not a daycare. They will of course change your child if they have an accident (which is inevitable based on experience). The school is a wonderful place and I would highly recommend it .

This school claims to accept 2.5 year olds, however please beware Ms. Ada may kick you out mid-day as she pleases if your child had one too many "accidents". My child was a bit over 2.5 when he joined and he attended for 3 months. He got along very well with his classmates and was an avid learner. The parent-teacher meeting was all good. Whenever he had an "accident" I would get a call from Ms. Ada to come and change him. He had to stay with a soiled diaper until I got there. One of those days, after getting the call and as I was around the corner from the school, Ms Ada calls me again, shouting at me that I am not "working with her" and that I should take my son out of the school right now. Subsequently Ms Ada threatened me with a lawsuit if I wrote a bad review for her school online. As this was mid-month, I asked Ms Ada via one of the teachers for the remaining tuition I already paid. I was told that Ms Ada's Attorney will contact me. It was quite traumatic for me, but most saddening to my son, who didn't get a chance to say goodbye to his friends. Shameful behavior from a school's Principal. I would never want this to happen to any other child.

I think this is the best that Jersey City has to offer, however, the yearly increases are making it unaffordable for middle class families. Good quality teaching staff and facility.

We absolutely love this school. Our daughter has attended this school since she was 3-year old. At the tender age of 5 she reads, writes and does math like a 2nd. grader. Ms. Ada is a very passionate and devoted teacher. She makes learning so much fun. The school is not fancy but it is very warm and nurturing. We highly recommend this school to any parents who want a strong academic foundation for their children. This is the only Montessori in JC that will not disappoint. Our daughter will miss Ms. Ada and her school terribly. But we will visit often with some yummy cupcakes.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
