My child is in the self contained preschool class for autistic students and I am very pleased with the progress that he has made, and with his teacher.
Well my children go to p.S 14 and to tell the truth I heard bad things about the school. But, like the saying goes don't believe everything you hear. I'm very happy with the teachers, and the restrs of the staff. I haven't had any problems. The V.P's have been helpful vwith any questions or concerns I had. The V.P's as well as the princple are always outside to greet the children and talk to a parent about a problem.
This school has gone downhill since Ms. Jackson, former principal, left. The kids are out of control, and the new administration is not equipped to deal the day to day problems. Parents, if you children are assigned to go here, I have two words for you: PRIVATE SCHOOL!! The faculty is lovely but are abused by both the kids and administration. They are getting totally burned out! Again, I emphasize, don't send your kids here, you'll be sorry!
There is parent involvement. After school programs are only for school based work.
Most of the students here are interested in their academics. They will stop at nothing to make sure that they receive their education. There is a school band there that gives every student who would like to participate in it a chance as long as their grades aren't unacceptable. With this knowledge, students work even harder. The band instuctor takes students who don't even know how to read a note of the music and turn them into note creators. There are activities after school has ended for children to participate in. The principal and other staff members put their all into this school to make sure that everyone receives an education. Parents became involved as much as they could. Their support has helped students male it through. There are organizations that support this school such as the College Bound/Gear Up Program and The College Prepratory Program to help prepare for college.
