Lawrence High is a very good school, and it is getting better all the time. They have created academies: freshman and sophomore academies, and three career academies for juniors and seniors. The school is quite diverse and creates a welcoming environment for students. The teachers are encouraging and helpful to the students. A few years ago there was a significant renovation of the building. Some of the reviews below are out of date.
I am also dismayed by negative comments made by people on these review boards that obviously don't know anything about Lawrence. We moved from Montgomery twp 5 years ago to Lawrence and we are very impressed with the school system. The teachers and admin go out of their way for the students and the programs are excellent. The board of ed is also impressive as they have handled the budget crisis incredibly well.
Lawrence High School is bordered by many high achieving school districts in neighboring towns. There are also many fine private schools in the area. At LHS you will get a varied mix of students from all walks of life, more like the real world. Parents and community care about the schools here. This HS has a lot to offer: sports, music programs, theater productions and clubs. There are many AP and honors courses available with wonderful teachers. Your experience in high school is what you make of it. The more you are involved, the better for you. My son has never felt threatened here. He has been pushed to excell.
Lawrence is an average school. The problem is that it's situated among some of the best blue-ribbon schools in New Jersey. Montgomery, Princeton, West Windsor Plainsboro North/South, and South Brunswick are all Blue-Ribbon school districts within a 15 minute radius of Lawrence HS. If you are looking to move to this part of NJ, I would strongly consider trying to move to an area where you have one of these Blue-Ribbon school districts as they are far superior to Lawrence HS.
I am a Lawrence parent and a Realtor. I am dismayed at the less than favorable view that some, outside of Lawrence, have for our community and schools. A school is more than test scores or sport trophies. It's about the people and the committment to make a great place to live and learn. These 'rating' systems rarely paint an accurate picture of the school. If you're planning to move to this area, visit the school. Talk to a Lawrence parent. Find out for yourself what a great place Lawrence truly is.
The school has excellent teachers, but they could definitely work on their disciplinary skills. One of the things that makes the school above average is the great sports program. The school offers golf, cheerleading, basketball, football, baseball, softball, track & field, cross-coutry, soccer, wrestling, tennis, hockey, figure skating, field hockey, swimming, lacrosse, and many others.
Lawrence High is an amazing school. Teacher quality is amazing, they do the best they can to control classes, teacher, and get to know the student to further their education. Clubs and elective classes are I think what makes Lawrence High the best. There are so many things student can get involved in and if a student isn't sure what to do with their lives the plenty of choices really helps. The school fiddles with things to see what's best for it and i think they are smart for doing it. They see whats wrong with the school and how the problem could be easily fixed. It is in a safe and lovely neighborhood.
It's a good school, but as a student, sometimes eight periods seem strenuous. There are plenty of exrtacurricular activities, and if someone wants to get a higher education in something the school outsources. I feel safe, if there is a problem and a student reports it, the problem is resolved as soon as possible.
Academic quality is high, but depends on teacher. Music, art, sports, and other extracurricular activities readily available. Sport highly encouraged. Low level of parent involvement.
LHS is a pretty great school. Though it may be overcrowded and some of the teachers may not be too skilled at their profession, Lawrence High School is focused on making sure that each student has a great experience. -a student
