MATES Academy is a great school with many offerings in Science/Math/Research/Technology and concentration in Marine Science. The school challenges the students to their maximum potential, is very rigorous and is ideally suited for a child with interest in the fore mentioned. An admission test is required and acceptance is vert competitive but worth the effort. Your student is exposed to college style block scheduling and classes are taught at honors level with many at college level earning college credits. The drawback is there are not many electives in other disciplines. However, the teachers dedicate their effort to ensure that the children succeed and is prepared for college and beyond. Here they will build a strong work ethic that will last a lifetime. The staff is led by Principal Ms. Carol who is passionate about education, students and continually strives for excellence. Her efforts has been rewarded by the recent blue ribbon award and many others. We are grateful that our son and daughter had this opportunity. This education is worth tens of thousands and I know because our son who has less interest in Science & Technology attends a Prep school with comparable rigor.

I am currently a student at MATES and I love it. Despite it being a really heavy workload, it does prepare you for college. I am a big fan of the dual enrollment classes, I will have earned around 30 college credits by graduation, which will save me a lot of cash in college if they transfer. The research opportunities are plentiful, and there are tons of great clubs and teams to join. Plus our grads get into great schools; last year 8 kids went to ivies. A great school, just socially tough sometimes since your friends live all over the county. Admissions is competitive, and becoming more so every year. I encourage anyone who is gifted and/or likes math/science and/or is looking for a better alternative to their town's school to apply. But you don't have to be sure about your career/college goals, and the english/history/spanish departments are great too. Just be sure you can handle the workload/pressure/sleep-deprivaion and resultant lack of a social life.

Worst discrimination practices I've ever seen in a school. Admissions is a far cry from reality.

I am currently a student at MATES and am extremely impressed by everything about the school. Our education is of the highest quality, we do loads of hands-on activities, and we're always having fun no matter what. We have opportunities that no other high school has. Even though we work hard, it;s worth the extra effort because of the school's unique style. Here everyone gets along and everyone is friends, even the teachers. All of our teachers are absolutely wonderful and fully qualified teachers. They all manage to teach on an almost college level, giving students maximum education, but also make class exciting. MATES is the best school I've ever attended and in my opinion the best that exists.

I am not a parent, but a former student of MATES. This school was the best thing that has happened to me. The hands-on experience was something that most high school students do not get. My four years of high school were the best four years of my life. The teachers were great; I wish I could have taken every one of them to college with me. They weren't just my teachers, they were my friends. Both students and parents were involved in most or all of the goings-on of the school, including the starting of any groups and clubs.

This school is amazing. The school works on the block system, four classes twice a year - double math and science. The school is hard and there is competition to get in, but it is worth it. My oldest has been in for two years and I hope to have my younger son there in a year. The new building opens this September so no more sharing which was the only problem before.
