My intent was to rate the school 3 stars but it would not allow me to do so (2 or 4). Two of my children attended this school. The religious education portion of the curriculum is strong. In regards to academics, if your child is at par or slightly above this would be a good school for you. There are very few resources for the student that learns in different ways and may need additional help. The principal and the teachers were not willing to go outside the normal curriculum for assistance (except to offer after school tutoring on a paid basis). My other child was not challenged at all at the school and found the classroom interactions flat. The community aspect is nice however they overly focused on fund raising. Now that my children are in the public schools I see the amount of resources that are available and the level of enrichment provided to well round a student.
This school really fosters family values and is a wonderful learning environment for children. The small class sizes and veteran teachers allow for one-on-one support when needed, and students thrive. It's also fun! Students can get involved in mission work, book clubs, sports, computer club, spring musicals and plays, bell choir and band...so much more. The best thing about this school is the children are in classes from K-8, no changeover to a big, threatening middle school or junior high school. The school is like an extended family by the time your child is in 8th grade.
This is a awesome school. It is very challenging, yet the teachers are always their for your support. However, I am disappointed with the recent principal;he has done little to make the school a better place. Other than that issue, Good Counsel School has prepared my child well for high school.
This an excellent school. The academics are very good and music, art, sports and school involvement are important aspects. The parents are very involved and make this a wonderful place for your child to grow and learn in a Christian environment.
My kids have been going to Our lady of Good Counsel for many years. One thing I am very disappointed with the school, is that the classes seem to be getting larger. Last year my son was in the third grade and he had 30 kids in his classroom. The classes are becoming to large. So it is not true that there is 18.5 kids per teacher, I wish it were that.
