Overall a good high school for a well-rounded education. Diverse student population sometimes dilutes the quality of 1-on-1 time and attention required for high achieving students. Focus and attention for exatracurricular activities is more towards athletics and little/none towards science,forensic/debate.
MHS does a good job of managing the students and offering activities, and they offer a good education for those in the AP track. However, when my student chose some non-AP classes junior & senior year they were a disappointment. "A" level classes should challenge the students somewhat, they should have to read challenging material and get writing assignments that prepare them for college. He was assigned books he had read in middle school. I'd hate to see what they're doing in B and C level.
I give Morristown High School a 4 out of 5 stars. I believe the quality of the education is there while providing numerous extracurricular activities for all students. The student body is diverse in language, culture, economics, and religion. The courses offered vary from lower level to AP courses. The guidance found at Morristown High is above satisfactory in preparing for college/after high school.
Teachers are a mixed bag. You have the really good ones but most are average or slightly above. Plenty of AP classes available but not all AP teachers are great. AP Math and Sciences are reasonably well covered but humanities are average. Hi property taxes don't translate to school quality or student achievements! In 2008 was ranked 60th in NJ but property taxes are probably in top 10 in the state. Low correlation of PerPupilSpending vs. SAT test scores or Ivy acceptances. Parents have to be heavily involved to ensure childs educational success.
Morristwon HS has been an excellent school for our daughter (this is her third year). THe majority of her teachers are engaging and challenging her to reach beyond what might be easily attained. There is an incredible number or after schoolprograms and sports and students are encouraged to take on responsibilites and leadership roles outside of the classroom. Like any school it has its challenges but this school reflects the real world and students gain life skills while attending!
As a former student ('03) and recent college graduate I can honestly say that the education I received at MHS prepared me for the real world. To succeed each one of us has to fight to learn and to appreciate an education. You learn that lesson at Morristown High.
This school is a Huge disappointment. I removed my kids from this school. It was a revolving door for principles for many years. The majority of the teachers never even returned phone calls, they were as disillusioned as the students. There was zero direction.
My children attended schools in Millburn and Livingston prior to moving to Morristown. I am very pleased with the education my children are receiving here in Morristown. The teachers and faculty keep me well informed of my children's progress. I am pleased with the curriculum and courses offered. Finally, it is great to live in an area with great diversity!
Great Academics, Kids get what they put into it, after school activities abound from sports to academics to arts,Parents are very involved
My son attends Morristown highg, as well my husband graduated from Morristown high. Morristown high has worked very hard in impporving the school experience, accademically, socially and extra-curricular. I feel it has a very positive program allowing for all types and races to flourish.
