The school has changed from an open door policy to call before you come. Academically the school is Not up to par with other private schools. The school is a music school with academics not an academic school with music. Parents involvement is minimal. Teacher voices are not heard. Their is no Principle leadership. The emphasis is on singing and concerts not academics. School is attempting remain open.
This school began a transition about a year and a half ago to become financially solvent. Unfortunately the academics of the school suffered. The curriculum of the school does not meet current standards needed for its children to be competitive with other private schools. The math program lacks needed tools for students to do well on academic tests. Students and parent input are not valued. Communication regarding school events, difficulties and academics are not communicated in a timely fashion and at times not at all. The music program is great but is more highly valued than education of its students.
My son attended NBCS since the 5th grade. He has done very well academically and socially. This school has dedicated teachers and staff, high academic standards and a heritage of musical excellence. The children get a well rounded education and are introduced to being world citizens as they travel internationally every 3 years. My graduate is on his way to a prestigious boarding school. Of course there is always room for improvement as with any school and I found the staff amenable to suggestions. I highly recommend the school. It's a great choice for boys from Newark and the surrounding vicinity.
