My children go to different schools, and my daughter goes here. In comparison to my other children's schools, this one teaches her to use creativity and critical thinking and focuses a lot on emotional skills like team work and problem-solving. I like that my daughter gets this approach because it suits her personality and plays on her strengths. If you are a parent who wants to make a positive effort in your kids' education, this is a good fit too. The teachers involve you in your child's progress and the school has all kinds of activities to do as a family to make you a part of your child's learning. They are new and have a long way to go, but I like that I can play a part in helping make it a good school. Compared to where she went before, this just feels better.

If you want your kids to learn the 1800"s style of education which is reading, riting and rithmetic, then this is the school for you. This school was horrible. My daughter was in the 4th grade and all they taught her was writing and math. They did not teach science, history or anything else. The teachers and staff were not very professional. The afterschool program was inconsiderate of parents. If you wanted to pick your child up before 5:30PM, they made the parents walk up 2 to 3 flights of stairs to the classroom instead of paging the child to come down stairs because of the strict program. instead of teaching kids subjects such as science during the school hours, they tried teaching them during the afterschool program. I feel that my daughter would have done better in the 4th grade at her previous public school then here at NECCS. I am working hard to prepare my daughter for the 5th grade because this school didn't prepare her.

This school was very disappointing to me as far as the second grade curriculum. I placed my son in their school in 2009 based upon what they said they would be offering. All I ever saw my soon do in school was write stories. There was no focus on phonics or math. There was hardly ever any homework besides reading. I spent a lot of time in his class to see what was going on. I had a gut feeling to pull my son out and I didn't, I will FOREVER REGRET not following my feelings. The following year I put my son in a private school and he is struggling because he basically missed a whole year of learning because this school dropped the ball on him. There was another student in my sons class who left and goes to the same private school as my son and the teacher who has them can tell they came from the same school. My son struggled a lot this year and is still struggling because of what he did not learn in the second grade. There were a lot of teachers who left NECC because of what was going on. All I can say is that there were a lot of parents who pulled there children out of the school.

I love Newark Educators Community Charter School, because it gives my son an excellent education espcecially coming from a city that our children score well below average in the state test because of poverty. Newark Educators excells in teaching our children that are our future. Because of the well educated teachers and principal I see the children becoming successful in what ever goals they set their minds to become in the future.
