Ctk is a school that is growing in all ways. It had a rough start, as all new schools do, but it is in its way to becoming one of Newark's finest prep schools

Posted January 19, 2011

Here is a story about Christ the King Prep that shares an alternative viewpoint to the one expressed by the two obviously upset parents: http://www.examiner.com/education-news-in-newark/christ-the-king-preparatory-school-the-school-that-works-1 In fact, Christ the King Prep, Newark's Cristo Rey School, has a myriad of student clubs and activities and a growing number of athletic programs in addition to our unique and innovative corporate internship program and our values-based college preparatory curriculum. In fact, our students receive more classroom hours in 4 days than public school students do in 5. Furthermore, last year, from our 24 schools nationwide, 100% of our graduates were accepted into college. We intend to achieve the same results in Newark, and we are on track to do so. As we prepare to graduate our first class in June 2011, already a number of students have received acceptance letters to college. You can also check us out on our website at: www.ctkprep.org.

Too much upheaval at the administrative level in three years parallel the total chaos in the classrooms. No activities, no sports no services for students and lets be realistic, in four days a week no teen is receinving a 'prep school' education. Lack of control has kids all over the place. Noble idea, but unrealistic for any but the top1% ( who could succeed anywhere). Deeply troubled urban atmosphere; no resources.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
