My fifth grader has been going here since kindergarten. I could not be happier. She has had excellent teachers year after year. The before and after care program is in the school and very convenient, and organized. The classrooms are appropriately sized and well equipped. The town also has a generous park and rec program for sports and other activities, my child took art for several years as well as softball and basketball. The principal is a wonderful lady, and sends out an informative weekly newsletter. I love this school!
My daughter attended this school until January. The curriculum is decades behind neighboring districts like Montclair. I was told by her teacher in November that she didnt know my child's reading level because she hadnt been trained in assessments yet. The district is implementing a new reading curriculum yet only hired one staff developer to train teachers in five schools and nine grades. The only real writing they did was a month spent on Elf on the Shelf. Theres zero diversity in the staff, the students spent more time copying word lists than on reading or being read to. I have an MS in Education and 13 years of experience teaching in a Blue Ribbon School and this was far from it.
I love Spring Garden school because the teachers are creative, intelligent, kind and know how to keep the children interested in school.. I have seen over the years, how the kids come back and visit their teachers. They truly educate and encourage each child to reach their fullest potential. It is a great elementary school!
