My school is gsa and i love this school im in it its awesome and its the best school ive ever been too join it right now best school ever in my opinion
Good Shepherd Academy is a warm and inviting elementary and middle school with strong Catholic values and an excellence in academics. As a parent of two children at the Academy for more than 7 years, I believe the faculty and administration care deeply for the students and their ability to succeed in and out of the classroom. The teachers are extraordinary. They truly go above and beyond. The kids do very well on standardized tests. My kids also love the extra-curricular activities and athletics with well-rounded sports program as well as various activities the whole family can enjoy. There's also a great sense of camaraderie and support from parents - a strong majority of whom contribute their time, money and skills to keep the school community consistently improving. The school has grown leaps and bounds over the past few years. It is a special place and I highly recommend.
This school is run with great love and concern for everyone. They have an excellent academic program and all the teachers are just phenomenal. They challenge the students to excel in academics and as well as being a good Catholic and an even better person. It was worth every penny I gave to this school. As a parent of an alumni, I am very proud and grateful to Good Shepherd Academy for preparing my son very well emotionally, socially, spiritually and academically for high school.
My daughter is nine year old. She ENJOYS her school life every day. We are very happy with the school in terms of religious teaching & academic. Teachers are great! They are role models for the children, smart, loving & caring.....we truly believe that her Academic and Christian value will be strong before she goes to high school. Good Shepherd Academy has a lot to offer besides academic. You can check their website and see the current pictures of their activities. www.gsanutley.org
This school was great until they find out your child has special needs or learning disabilities and/or needs special education services--then its get rid of the weakest link. They claim to have support services within the school that will help your child and then its still not good enough so then they recommend he or she be placed elsewhere. Its ridiculous.
Through dedicated, professional, and caring teachers, Good Shepherd Academy educates children spiritually, physically, and intellectually with a core curriculum in values based education. My child has been at GSA from Kindergarten and will be graduating 8th grade in June 2013. I know that this was definitely the best possible education that I could have given my child. You will not be disappointed with this wonderful Academy.
My children have had the opportunities to grow, learn and develop into educated, spiritual and intellectual human beings because we were fortunate to be a part of the Holy Family community. My children attended Holy Family Day Nursery School and continue to be enrolled in Good Shepherd Academy. The teachers and staff do a good job to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our children. There are several school activities and a variety of curriculums available such as Sports (Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer and Softball for Grades 4-8), Theatre, Music - Drum & Fife Corp, Spanish, Art, and Science Lab. The only addition I would add to our school would be an honor roll program to challenge our children to strive for their best and be recognized for their hard work. I would recommend GSA to all parents looking for a parochial setting for your child.
I have had my child in Good Shepherd Academy of Nutley since pre-K (a seperate building on Franklin Ave., Nutley). She has progressed very nicely, and I give the staff high marks at both the pre-K and the main grammar school locations. I like the curriculum, the teacher interaction with the parents, and the overall facility. I would recommend this school to all parents looking for a parochial school setting for their child.
We have a boy and a girl in GSA and both have been flourishing beautifully. From the SuperKids reading program to the brain blast games, GSA is a place that promotes educational nourishment and personal growth The teachers , staff and families are all like family. Its why we have the term "GSA Life." They offer sports, arts, music, theater but most importantly the teachings of our faith.
As an alumni parent and now a grandfather with children attending our Academy, and being part of the GSA LIFE, says a lot!!!!!!! GSA Family works together with administration and teachers in order to meet our ongoing endeavor, RAISING THE STANDARDS for our children - The Future of Our Country. Perfection is non-existent, but we strive to reach such with our high standards of Academic and Spiritual teachings, safe and happy environment, where our children, parents, teachers and staff can be A GSA FAMILY
We have been delighted with many aspects of the school, from the rigor of every subject, the way in which it is taught, the remarkable care and respect that's been shown to my children, the hardworking teachers and the constant strive for improvement. Other parents are kind, welcoming and willing to help and support the GSA. We believe our children are in a great learning environment and are growing intellectually, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
I attended GSA and I thought it was an interesting experience. Most of the teachers I had were both understanding but strict when need too. They are pretty advanced too compared to most school around the area!! and religion is their specialty!!! The Staff from 2010 and back were the best!!! They don't have much activities or clubs but are pretty decent other wise. The only problem is once they leave GSA students can get pretty wild... GSA helps you work hard and understand your faith, They provide you with a lot of things and all you have to do is use it and try. but that only because they are becoming "Teenagers".
As a newer family, I wanted to post my opinion after a great school year. Our child appreciates the reasons we chose GSA, which may not have sprawling fields and playgrounds (which we don t require since we live locally and have beautiful parks to take him to), but what they have is a remarkable teaching staff who are dedicated to the personal growth of our children. GSA is providing an opportunity for our son to build a solid foundation to succeed in this ever changing world, which is what they specialize in. This being said, bear in mind there is no such thing as a "perfect" school and if you always remember you get out of it what you put into it and support your child and the faculty toward their mutual goals, everyone wins. Hope this helps all who read.
This was our first year at GSA and we've seen first hand what a wonderful school this is. Our son graduates Kindergarten in June and we couldn't be happier with his progress. The tuition for a parisioner is far less that I expected. Please give a second look if your frightened by private school costs as you will be missing out on a great opportunity for your children.
GSA is a wonderful school. The teachers are caring and friendly, but also run a tight ship. Extracurricular activities for the younger childern are non existent, but all in all I am extremely happy with GSA.
disagree with the below poster, kids just participated in a 'suprise' end of year carnival and had a blast! Don't know of many elementary schools, public or private that have a drama club. No the school does not have an honor system but the marks speak for themselves and are univerally recognized by potential private high schools. The valedictorian on Belleville High 2007 is a former GSA grad. Sports program is above average.
there is a few sports activities, no music or drama club, fieldtrips is next to nothing. the children are not motivated because there is no honor system. children participation is very few.
Their academic program is good. I appreciate the spiritual/religious aspect as well. I am disappointed that noncatholic children are not made to feel inclusive. The extracurricular programs are fair. I applaud the participation of parents.
I agree with everything the previous poster wrote. On a personal note, we have had a good experience with the school thus far. It's the end of school year now and I am hoping the rumor mill with come to an end. The school is NOT closing, we have over 300 students, nor is it flagged or targeted by the Diocese as a potential to close. The parents I have met over the years have been amazing. Many of them have truly chosen the school for a Catholic education over the 'we don't like the public schools' answer. I would recommend GSA to anyone that asks, good things are going to come for our school.
