As a former student, I cannot speak highly enough of my experience at TPS. Close-knit community - I still speak with many of my classmates and teachers ten years later. The teachers are always willing to put in extra hours if it means helping their students and there are so many different ways to get involved. Yes, it is a lot of wealthy kids, but many - if not most- are still very down to earth. I feel that Pennington set me up for success throughout college and my career.

In respons to the top review (1/5 stars), middle schoolers don''t ever board, so the fact that he is 11 makes your story completely untrue. Also the halls where the boarders are all have hall parents so if anything happened they would know right away. Furthermore, there are no bunks!

School is not meeting safety standards-my son fell from bunk bed in 2004 at age 11,at 2:30am-no help till 5:30-supervisor had no clue-I told him to take to hospital-found that he broke hip-xfred to CHOPS 2 surgery so far-left permanent disability by their negligence -need more surgery-school charges $40K in fees-most of them are overseas student-no clue of any laws school hides behind such as immunity-I wonder where money goes? would you send your kids there? They are not responding and hiding behind immunity law......parents work hard to pay fees - I spent over $300K in medical bills....

My 16 year old daughter has used the small, supportive environment at TPS as an opportunity to shine. She's been involved in many of the extracurricular activities offered, while also excelling academically. Her teachers have been incredibly accessible to her, and have made her academic life there very satisfying. The "fit" of this school for my daughter has been outstanding...and in high school and college, it's all about finding a school that plays to both your child's strengths and weaknesses. I think Penny Townsend's vision for TPS has been a tremendous asset, and I look forward to more good things to come under her leadership. Bottom Line: Great teachers and administration who truly love what their doing, and who deeply care for the students in their school community.

Graduated in '05. Small student body meant I knew most of my classmates and felt a lot of encouragement to get involved in clubs and athletics, which included great leadership opportunities. Good-looking campus -- and I considered it a plus that it's not a huge campus; all classes are within a three minute walk, even between buildings. Teachers are accessible. Overall, enjoyed my experience...and still keep in touch with classmates/teachers/coaches. Get involved, be motivated, try new things, take advantage of the opportunities, and you'll get your money's worth. Cheers.

This school has all of the positive attributes of a 'prep' school without any of the snooty 'prep' school stereotypes. It has a very nice campus with well equiped classrooms and an excellent student/teacher ratio. The student body and faculty are family-like. My children have been getting a great education, plenty of sports participation, made great friends, and are indeed getting well prepared for university.

A quality school -- devoted faculty, close attention to student needs, a family atmosphere.

Pennington is an interesting place. It is not as preppy as most private schools in the area, but dont think that if your kid is socially misadjusted elsewhere they will fit in here. The students seem nice, but they can be cruel. Pennington is not an escape, its like public school execept everyone knows your name and if you do something stupid. I am a student at Pennington and i enjoy it, sometimes, but dont forget that it is still high school, and high school blows.

the course of study at pennington is exceptional for students who wish to continue their education. classes are small, teachers are great and are always available to students as well as parents.kids are challenged as much as they want to be. ap courses are exceptional. the entire pennington community has been a wonderful experience for my children. they are certainly ready for college when they graduate from here.

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
