I feel that this school is slipping. The principle doest know how to do his job. Although he is not a bad person, but explelling children for 5 days everytime they do something wronge is not giving them a good education, and it tells children if they don't want to go to school just do something wronge and you'll get a 5 day vacation. The superentendent needs to do his own job and not the principles, and the principle needs to do his and not the teachers. These teachers need to follow rules and dress codes like the students if they want these children to follow them and do as the say. This school would suceed if they had a real code to follow and push for the parents to become involved, by have meetings and activies for these parents on a weekly basis, And this should include transportion.
Parental involvement is lack, Some of the teachers are good, Like the ones that have been there for years. For the most part this is not a school I would choose to have my child in. This is why I am moving out of the area as quickly as I can, If you have children I would NOT recommend sending them to this Middle school.
I think parental involvement is huge if you expect to have a successful school. Unfortunately this school lacks parental involvement, as well as strong leadership in the principal. Without these two things, the school lacks so much. The other thing....good kids are grouped with bad kids and no encouragement is given to keep them on the straight and narrow. I would discourage anyone from sending their children to PNS, especially if they aren't from the area.
I feel the quality of Port Norris is very good when compared to some of the other surrounding areas. Their Avid program is excellent for those students who are academically advanced and are in school to learn and expand in all areas of education as they grow. Parent involvement is very good and my feeling is that it's the parent's choice to be involved in their child's education or to just let the child go on their own.
