This school is really good. I went to Hasbrouck Heights school for 8th & 9th grade, & Hawthorne for 6th & 7th. I got bullied a lot. The kids in this school are accept everyone. The classes are small. The staff cares about the kids. We have therapy a lot and group therapy too but everyone gets closer because of it. They have a lot of extra curricular stuff & we get to pick 1 or 2 to do after lunch, like knitting, different kinds of art, video games, study strategies, piano, guitar, and culinary. We do gym the other 2 days a week & we can pick yoga, martial arts, sports, or strive (they take us too strive gym in saddle brook). We have basketball and track after school too. If you go here you can also do the sports in your school district. We have a lot of fun trips like to the Bronx Zoo, to see the Romeo & Juliet play, & to Point Pleasant beach. & also every Wednesday is a half day and it's nice because we get a break .(:
I am a student at Sage Day School. I feel that my previous situation left me with a horrible feeling of self-doubt and I would not stand for that. I realized my previous school is responsible for that feeling. I would not have continued a proper education if it were not for two things. 1) My family and my advocate for being so supportive. and 2) Sage Day School for giving me the energy and feeling I needed for a good education. The teachers will not hesitate to help you when you need it. There is a whole staff of therapists who are there to help you cope with any uncomfortable feelings. Parents: If your child has a learning disability and they are unhappy with their current school, Sage will be there for them when the School District won't.
Two years ago my son was depressed and hopeless about school. As a family we were desperate to get our son's life back on track and hoped that we wouldn't have to sacrifice academics in the process. It felt like a tall order. From our first phone call with Mrs. D we felt that Sage was a special place with caring staff. My son is graduating in a few more days and has been accepted to college. We don't think he would be where he is today without the support and care of Sage Day staff. The teachers, administrators and therapist who helped my son have my deepest gratitude. If you are a parent who has lost hope, Sage Day will make a great difference in your life.
I'm a college professor so I'm familiar with academic standards, etc. Academically it's a solid school and I am impressed with their curriculum. My child is college bound in a year and she is being pursued by some pretty fine colleges like Penn State, Cornell, etc. It's Middle States accredited which is a real plus and the students get a lot of personal attention. The administrators aren't exactly the most wonderful people you'll ever meet; they are strict and don't put up with any inappropriate behavior. I prefer a strict environment myself and I could care less if I'm good friends with these people or even like them for that mater-as long as they run a good school. The kids love this school. They love the teachers, the therapists. For my children, I couldn't ask for a better school.
A fine high school to look at for a student who has psycho therapeutic needs but is relatively high functioning and wants a college-bound course of study.
Activities: There is a wide selection of clubs and electives such as Art, Drama, Band, Music Appreciation, Culinary Arts, Study Hall, Community Service, Film Study, and more. The physical education agenda includes Martial Arts, a Gym Membership, and Bowling. There are many school tournaments and sports to join in. And the Community Service club is constantly at work. Learning Environment - Most of the teachers are understanding and teach their job well. Always those to give help to students in need. Then there are some who a negligent to the situation, which causes the class to become something it should be. It's a good learning environment, but it might be too easy for some. The principal is fair and keeps the students in line. There are a lot of field trips and a half day, every Wednesday, but the curriculum is still followed. It's a good school, but could be better. -Student
