The difference I have seen in my children (grade 2 & 6) since bringing them to RCDS last year is nothing less than miraculous. The small class size and focus on fostering self-confidence and resiliency have impacted them in really positive ways. And they love the family-style lunch and daily recess or gym (among other non-academic activities) that match up with our family value for well-rounded children. Proud to be a Gator!

Rumson Country Day School is an institution that is based in both reality and fantasy. The reality is, that they do have some good courses there. The fantasy is, they have the nerve to charge and keep applicant's money (they kept $3000 of our money) when and if, you decide to not go to their school. We chose to send our daughter to Ranney and have never regretted that decision. After speaking with the Dean, the accounting department and others at the school, it's clear they are money and blood hungry. I'm glad we trusted our instincts and didn't go there, even after they stole our deposit money. As if they need it. Here is a hint: Don't put money down unless you're literally willing to sign away your life. They're blue bloods who are controlling and blood thirsty.

I went to this school in the 1980s, and I loved the school when I went. The drawback (both then and now) is that the school acclimates students to a relatively homogenous upper class culture that's a bit out of touch with 99% of the world. Some parents may see this as an advantage, as they want their children to be part of the cultural and financial elite. Yet because it calibrates a student's social awareness to a highly skewed demographic, parents who send their children here may wish to supplement their children's experiences with more diverse cultures outside of Rumson.

Rumson Country Day School is a formatice school based on character building and academic excellece, with a strong focus on students' participation and involvement. They also offer an outstanding program for children with reading disabilities (dyslexia) that is highly effective and encouraging to the child. I highly recommend Rumson Country Day School!

RCDS is a special place. We have been extremely happy with the challenging curriculum, the talented and caring teachers and the overall "feel" of the school. The family atmosphere creates an environment that is supportive, encouraging and a great place to learn. Our children love going to school everyday and we can see that their experience in school has given them self-confidence and a love for learning.

this school appropriately challenges my children and provides boundaries. we used to go to a TOP rated public school in NJ but one of my sons had 2 not-so-great teachers in a row who could not control their classrooms! Although my son misses his friends from the other school district, he loves his new school and especially the school store and his new teacher, who is actually pretty firm with the class. Kids want to know where the "line" is and I want the school to provide those boundaries so my children can learn discipline and good manners which will help them throughout their entire lives. On top of that it seems they are having plenty of fun learning the ropes at their new school. The buddy family system is AMAZING and has really made us feel comfortable. THANKS RCDS!!!!

Our six year old son comes home from RCDS consistently saying "mom, school is great!". He is excited to learn and looks forward to each day. I could not ask for a better benchmark. We are also delighted to see how, in just three short weeks, his reading has skyrocketed. Terrific well rounded program, and wonderful families (and kids) too!

Rumson Country Day is a progressive and academically challenging school that emphasizes service, personal growth and community as much as its academics. When I visit the school, the kids are happy, polite, excited and interested. I truly believe that they educate the whole child, which is so critical to future success. My daughter absolutely loves it, and we love being a part of such a special place!

What can be better than asking your child how their day was and hearing "Great" consistently for eight years! We wish we never had to leave. It's filled with the most amazing teachers, staff, parents, and students!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
