School sports are run by politics. If you are not well connected your child will not play sports here no matter how talented he is. Sad. My child is an honor roll student and excels at baseball, but we are transferring him to GCIT so he can have the opportunity to play sports.
LArge school with a lot to offer kids. Great teachers and a great Ap program. Teachers care about the kids and the school system in Washington Township gets parents involved. Kids are encouraged to become involved in the community. My Daughter loves the High School and has done well in and out of the classroom. With a tough workload and plenty of activity after school she is kept busy, too busy to find herself bored. She has scored well on all placement tests. Like anything, if the parents are invovled and the students are responsible thay can excel!
Would love to send my kids to WTHS. I am very unhappy with the local school that they are in now.
The school has great clubs, sports, teachers, counclers and all that nice stuff. But the actual kids in twp can be mean so if your child is on the shy side(meaning very shy)this may not be the right school..
I'm a former student 2007 graduate of WTHS and the teachers taught me real well and I've learned alot. I learned many things that can help me with my future and careers and couldn't be any more proud of myself for graduating. This school may be overcrowded and it will keep getting more overcrowded as the township's population soars, as long as housing developments are being built and until the township starts transferring students to other schools in the county. Other than that, the academics in this school are excellent thats why I gave it 5 Stars but every high school is going to have its cliques, drugs, fights, and so and so. Also, the adminstration is great keeping everyone organized and out of trouble.
Excellent academics! I graduated from WTHS and was very impressed. The Faculty is awesome as well and really do show a concern for the student's education.
i graduated from WTHS and i loved it. There are some teachers who just go through the motions and dont really care. but there are also teachers there that are very passionate about what they do and make a big impact on their students. the sports program is great. i myself played sports and it opened alot of opportunities for me. i was offered scholarships to schools due to the success of our athletic programs. i have also had friends who recieved full-scholarships and have been very successful in their college careers. I wasnt at the top of my class. i was your average student. I didnt feel that the teachers paid more attention to the above average students. As long as you make an effort to do well and develop a relationship with your teacher, your teacher will be more than happy to help in any way
My child has had many problems with WTHS. The teachers are unwilling to help children with learning problems. They are children themselves. I have dealt with so many teachers that act inappropriate. There is zero communication between departments (i.e.; admin., teachers, nurse, etc.) One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. If the is a problem with a child everyone that is in contact with him/her should be made aware of any issues. The sports program is horrible, if you are not a stellar athlete or a favorite or even a child of a friend of the coach, forget about getting much play time. The coaches think that they are Pro-Athletes. I have heard of kids failing the drug tests, but since they are good players they were able to continue in the sports programs. What kind of signal is this sending to our children? Not impressed!!!
This school is to large, and it is true that only the students that are at the top of their class are noticed, and nurtured. I had two children that went to Township, one that was at the top of the class and one not. The one that was not was treated unfairly many times. Not until she took honors classes did she feel that she was getting a good and fair education. Administration is in denial about this issue, I have talked to them about it. If your child goes to Township, be their advocate if they are not in honors or AP classes, or they will be treated unfairly.
This school is just too large. It is very easy for kids to get lost in the crowd. Class sizes are much too big. There are some outstanding teachers here; if you could handpick them, your child would receive a top-notch education. Unfortunately, you can't, and there are some very lazy and/or burnt out teachers at this school--perhaps more than at most because it is so big they can hide. Your child is more likely to get the best teachers if he takes advanced or honors classes. There is definitely an anti-intellectual atmosphere at the school; sports are emphasized, not academics. If your kid is a jock, he will probably love it. Teacher salaries are on the low side, which doesn't help quality recruitment or turnover. I had a mold issue in my classroom. The school is pretty dirty in general.
