The school is located in a very strong community and the parents are very involved. The school environment is a nurturing one however classroom sizes have been increasing which adds friction to the learning process and the ability for the children to receive individualized attention. As a result teaching reaches the lowest common denominator which is pretty good but doesn't account for the imbalanced nature of development of children. 5th grade is now considered to be split out as well so that will impact the continuity and environment for the children. Facilities such as A/C are not available in the classroom. The peer group and parents are fantastic however and the staff are very caring and nurturing. This makes up for a lot of the negatives but not all.
My children both attend Deerfield Elementary School, and we love it. Principal Salazar is fantastic and the rest of the team is as well. We've also had truly wonderful teachers who really seem to understand each classmates individual personality. Parents are extremely engaged as well.
Deerfield Elementary is one of the best elementary schools in New Jersey. Not only do we have a compassionate, devoted and kind principal...but the faculty is top in it's profession. The curriculum is excellent and everyone goes above and beyond to provide an excellent learning experience for our children.
This school has really helped my child with his reading disability. Great Special education department! We have experience with another so called top district that did not help my child the way he needed, so we moved to the millburn district. Deerfield is top notch!
