Parent involvement has increased dramatically in the last two years at this school. The Home & School Assoc. hosts family fun nights that are open to the community and are very well attended by students, teachers and parents on a regular basis. The teachers at school Six work hard to service every child within the school, many are there after hours often. The principal cares about the children and has been very attentive to parent suggestions or alternate solutions! There is still room for improvement as in most schools. Overall the children at School 6 are learning, thriving and growing with the help of caring staff, and parents!
I have been a part of the Winslow Township system for over 30 years. I've never seen such innovative, caring, hard-working staff in my life. This school not only deals with academics but the problems our society faces today. Some of our children are from broken homes and have seen things in their lives that we never experienced as adults. This school offers many wonderful things. For example, gifted and talented, band and orchestra, dare program, Just Say No, Wilson reading program, amazing basic skills staff, chorus, field trips etc.
My son has attended school 6 for 3 yrs. The principals seem to care about the kids. The teachers are ok if you get a good one. The teachers don't keep you informed about your child and you don,t find out if they are having a problem until it is too late. You have to keep writing or calling to get any answers. there is no after school activities. tutoring is never offered if needed.
Quality of acaademic programs is fair. They do have a great Gifted and Talented teacher right now who does go the extra mile to bring enrichment in for the kids, so that program is fine. Also, there is a faily new principal right now, Dr. Ricardi who is very supportive and helpful. However, they just did away with the seperating of students for math class and there is very little differentiated learning going on, they seem to teach more to the average or lower students and the gifted students are left bored. They do offer chorus and band and orchestra for the children, beginning in 3rd grades for most. They offer free lessons during the summer with the music teachers who are very good. Nothing really done for art or sports and extracurricular activities are done thru the township at this grade. Parental involvment is low.
