My children have been going to SLH now for 5 years and I can't say enough about it. We moved to the town specifically to go to school there and we're very glad we did. This year we have a new superintendent and a few more great teachers added on to the staff so we're only going up!
My daughter is in second grade. And she has the best teacher ever! Miss Rose is very dedicated, and goes out of her way to help her class. My daughter was having problems with math and language arts, and Miss Rose taught them some learning skills that she learned in college WOW! That made a difference. I love this school the teachers and parents are very involve. And the principle is great.
SLH is a great school! The teachers are very dedicated. I have three children in the school and I am very pleased. The children enjoy the art and music as well as the academics. It is a wonderful small community with involved parents.
This is a great school. Faculty is well rounded. They offer a variety of activities for the kids to be involved in. Very low tolerance for bullying. Good, Healthy lunches.
Great small school that provides excellent instruction and caring. Excellent staff and leadership. Won Governor's School of Excellence in NJ. Involved and active parents; supportive community. Just recognized for outstanding in house services in special education.
SLH school is very dedicated to the students and parents as well. The staff is consistently looking for ways to keep the children interested in learning. I am a former graduate of the school and currently have 2 children enrolled. Both of whom have totally different personalities and forms of learning. The school recognizes and takes into account that each child is different and works with the parents to make sure that they have the utilities to be as progressive as possible in their classes. Every school has bumps but this one I consider to be very smooth.
I have a son with a special education eligibiity. I found the school adinistration and teachers very dedicated to ensuring that he have every possible advantage and assistance possible. They have offerred many services, not provided in other states. They have been dedicated to insuring that he remain 'mainstreamed' and not isolated from peers. I insisted that he not undergo standardized testing. The school provided an atmosphere where he could tolerate testing and ws unconcerned that his scores would affect the schols 'report card'. I give this school an A plus. Their concern for identifying students early with special needs is to their credit, this gives the children a better chance in life.
Our family have had children with different learning styles in SLH school for the past 9 years. We feel the school has done a wonderful job in teaching using different methods to reach each and every child. The environment is friendly and flexible which keeps the stuidents motivated to learn. If you are looking for a K-8 elementary school that keeps the students best interests in mind then SLH is that school.
If your child scores low on the state tests, be prepared. They will use any methods available to them to make sure your child will be evaluated and tracked. They will insist on a psychological profile and invasive tests which they will interpret to fit their needs and you will not get a chance to challenge their findings. The trend in this school is to move out of the learning business and into the mental health and behavior modification business. They also want poor 'test takers' off their rolls and classified 'special ed' so their marginal grades are not counted with the mainstream population of the school thereby blemishing the 'School Report Card.' With only 396 students enrolled in this school, they have unlimited time and resources to concentrate on any 'less than perfect' students. Their solution to my son's handwriting problem was to suspend him from the rafters swinging on a bungee cord upside down while reciting times tables. We did not know they were inflicting this abuse and humiliation on him for three years and by then it was too late. As soon as a child is tracked, they have nothing to offer but a watered-down curriculum. This school is a perfect example of why more parents are homeschooling their children these days.
