My son has been going to Lounsberry since September and I am so far not at all impressed with what I've seen. A lot of responsibility is placed on the kids, with little assistance from the almost-entirely middle-aged, female staff. This school is the shining example of why the teachers' union and it's rules of tenure should be run out of practice. My son has had some issues and not one teacher addressed me about them until he started failing and I had to figure out why. When I contacted the guidance counselor, she told me she'd already met with him "a few months back" because a teacher had brought up concerns about him. Nice to know I was contacted about any of that. The school itself is run-down and I agree that the enrichment period is a joke. Let them run outside, then. My son's enrichment period is 2nd period so he doesn't even have homework to do, unless I'm supposed to start encouraging him to not do his homework from the night before? Bottom line, I feel like a lot of the parents care/want to be involved, but the lazy and checked-out staff make it difficult. I am not maligning all the teachers; the younger ones seem to try. But the middle-aged hags have to go.

I wish I could give it less than 1 star...I have 5 children. My oldest is a Junior in VTHS. He is an honor student & a gifted athlete. At this school, he had to share a locker & some of his books...on a regular basis. Mostly, the kids received poorly made copies of the pages in books to do their work . He had his gym clothes stolen here. Another student had a phone stolen. This schoool is only for grades 5 & 6. Need I say more? The primary school, Rolling Hills, which is grades 2,3, & 4, is on the U.S. list of 'failing schools' So is the Junior High, which consists of 7th & 8th Grade. My son says the drinking & drugs start in 7th grade around here. . I pay $10k in taxes for this? When he graduates, we are moving T. Damato

There is very poor communication skills within the school. Notices are sent home to parents about upcoming activities with little to no explanation. These 10/11 year olds are expected to behave like 14/15 year olds. They are too young to have all of the responsibility that the school expects of them.

Small percentage of teachers are excellent. The balance of the teachers are mediocre at best. Parents are not very involved in the school any longer. Extracurricular activities are confined to 8 week sports seasons and 1 club.

Teachers are wonderful, however I feel these past two years have been too easy. I feel the enrichment period at the end of the day is a waste. This is not a highschool. Students at this age should not have a period free to do their homework. They should actively be involved in either the band or chorus. I also feel 5th grade should not be a part of a middle school. Too much responsibilty is placed on these children at such a young age. They have lockers and are switching classes for all subjects. There is also no recess for these children. On the weeks they have health, these children sit in classes from 8:10am until 2:35pm. The only physical activity these kids have is the moving from class to class. With the middle school philosophy, this is fine for the sixth graders, but not the fifth graders.

Great teacher leadership in this school - The teachers really involve the children in their projects and do a wonderful job. The after school activities and programs are great - the SCA is a good way to become involved - there is always something going on for the children. This school allows the children to 'live, learn and love' life to the fullest extent.

This is a great school. The teachers give children incredible support. By having all the children in town attend the same school for 5-6, they form friendships, have all school related activities geared to their age group, and the teachers become adolescent 'experts'.

The school is fantastic! The faculty is the best around. They are always there for you if you have any questions and are there for the kids if they need any extra help.
