I attending this school from 6th grade in 1999 through 8th grade in 2002. The teachers were engaging and personable and made learning a lot of fun. Even now as a college graduate I still go back to the school to see my old teachers and tell them how I'm doing, thanks in large part to their guidance in my formative years. Without a doubt, this is one of the best elementary schools in the area.
There has been a new Principal each year since my son started attendance in 2008 and there is a definate lack of good leadership. The Teachers are average but are within the top 25 percentile in pay for the State of NJ. There is clearly a lack of enthusiasm created for the kids and the programs are mediocre. The Board of Education has members with conflict of interest such as most of them either Teachers or a Spouse who is a Teacher within the School. The Superintendent is arrogant and does not listen to the people who are paying his salary, and there is a clear indication that they are continually rolled over by the Unions. My son who was previously in Private School, has not improved in his skills or knowledge since attending this school. I'm giving it another year, then putting him back into private or moving altogether.
The Principal at this school is a strong leader, both educationally and as a staff manager. The teachers in this school present a jaded face to the parents and students; their lessons often lack sparkle and enthusiasm. The district has demonstrated a lack of support for the music program. In the last 8 years, there have been no fewer than 6 instrumental music teachers. This district does not take advantage of the support offered by the local high school music director to assist the program's growth. The parent involvement in this school equates directly to minimal financial involvement. For example, parents rarely bake homemade wholesome snacks, for after school dances, but rather, buy more convenient chips and other unhealthy snacks. The district's wonderfully successful and absolutely worthwhile Safety Town program is housed at this school.
