I am a graduate of this school, currently failing in my third semester of college. The main focus at this school is 'cookie-cutter' education and the teachers and other staff really try to keep too strict control over the students and the learning process. The mindset of may teachers, I feel, was that the teacher is always right and constructive criticism, different opinions, etc, by students is inappropriate and unwelcome. This school is terrible when it comes to preparing students for real college - seeing as, my estimate, 80 percent of every graduating class goes to Gloucester County College. The school also has the tendency to make students think it's okay to take the easy way out and attend GCC and there is no real effort to push students to attend real 4-year colleges and universities. I feel like the school screwed me over in terms of college prep.

My son has gone through the entire WDT school system from kindergarten and I have had nothing but positive experiences with the teaching staff and administration at all three schools. I have to say, however, there is a significant issue with drugs and also with what I also perceive to be questionable placements academically in some subjects at WDHS--this does tend to hold some kids back. Also, though the school has excellent technology resources, classes offered around technology are limited and basic in scope. I do believe the majority of parents are truly committed to their kids in our town. I have also seen some excellent mentoring and lifelong relationships evolve from the open communication between teachers and students. Overall, an outstanding school!

West Deptford High School is a wonderful school. I am part of the class of 2009. Class sizes are small enough to allow for one on one attention with students, yet they are large enough to provide a variety of views in class discussions. The teachers at WDHS also are available after school to help students in need and are extremely caring. The administration at WDHS is also very helpful to both parents and students. With a variety of courses to choose from, at varying levels, WDHS is extremely versatile. The sports programs are incredible at WD, as well as the band. Almost every student at WDHS is involved in sports, band, or another sort of club. There are many clubs to choose from which range from general interest clubs, community service clubs, to academic clubs. WDHS is very involved within the community (ex. Senior Citizens Prom) and strives for excellence.

The school System is poor. I dont believe West Deptford is a leading school, they need to reduce the problem of drug and alcohol abuse. School learning is being narrowed down due to kids in the classroom not exceeding with the others. One on one time needs to be more important focus.

I have nothing but positive things to say about West Deptford High School. I have a son who came in as a junior from a private prep school, and initially, I had a concern that it would lag academically. After meeting with the curriculum coordinator, head of guidance and principal, my husband and I decided to make the move and it has been a great move - the teachers are highly motivated and motivate the students - there is a huge offering of AP and Honors classes. The reason my son wanted to make the move was Arts - WDHS had an awesome Marching Band, Choir program, and High Musical program. They also offer other 'Arts' courses that private schools don't get the funding for - for my son, it has been an awesome experience and we, as parents, are very pleased.
