Westbrook School is an outstanding place for teachers, students, parents, and staff. The principal is very well educated, knowledgeable about effective teaching methods, and disciplines with complete fairness. The students seem to be very successful once they leave Westbrook and go on. The teachers are competent and hard working. The parents provide a support system for enriching activities.
The teachers are hard working, dedicated individuals who truly care about the kids. the staff is warm & friendly & always there to lend a helping hand. The PTA & parents involved are always there to support & lend a helping hand & will do whatever it takes to get the children the progams they deserve. A Top notch school wthat goes beyond an 8:30-3pm day!!
I've had two children go through Westbrook. This school is excellent. Academically it is outstanding. Westbrook constantly scores extremely well on standardized tests. Its students go into the middle school and the high school well prepared. With six elementary schools converging at these next levels, its not a coincidence that Westbrook students excel academically at those levels. Environmentally...the setting is beautiful. Mountains, fields and streams surround its location. Inside, the classrooms invite its students into a learning environment through its interactive work stations, and the learning visual aids that decorates each wall. The teachers spend much time (mostly their own, before the school year starts, and then before and after school hours) creating these classrooms that motivates their students. Socially...the principal and her staff have been successful in fostering a creative, fun, yet disciplined program. There are many extracurricular activities for parent and child to participate in. Signed a father.
I think this school is great! Both of my children went here and I have had plenty of opportunity to volunteer and be involved. Weather permitting, the children have a large playground to play on, yes, even in the winter. My kids have excelled at this school. Having experienced eight years here, I have no complaints!!
This school could be better. Parent involement is not encouraged during school hours and there are not many opportunities for the students to 'share' with their parents. There aren't performances or programs for student to display projects. Children are not encouraged to come to meet their teacher/visit their classroom before school starts in September (the staff is too busy getting ready). There is also not a time through the entire year when the kids are allowed to visit the classroom with parents to 'show off' their classroom. During the winter months children are not allowed to go outdoors to play. The school needs updating and the gym also functions as the cafeteria. The classrooms are very small. That being said, the PTA is great and they do a lot for the school, which is nice. The academics aren't excellent, but I would give them above average.
